If you ' moves somehow blown ' in this remote corner of Gran Canaria, it makes sense to visit this church, it almost always open!). The Church is really old and nothing really notable it is not!

The Basilica of St. John in Telde was the first bishop of the diocese. In it there is a Flemish altarpiece of great value. As well as the Santo Cristo. Can be made the visit with audio guides, which are very instructive

The Basilica of San Juan Bautista is located in the historic centre of Telde. We visited him Friday. In the Basilica, there are several tanks with steps of the cross. The tanks were floral and ready for the procession scheduled after mass. A great moment of emotion at the beauty of the tanks and the fervor of Christians. The Interior of the Basilica is also beautiful.

  • Very pretty exterior (the site was closed at the time of my visit) and the borough is well worth a stroll about!
  • Very nice small church.
  • Great location!
  • The city of Telde is the second largest of Gran Canaria. The island was the capital of one of the two kingdoms that was divided when it was conquered by the Castilians. The oldest district of the city is San Juan, which retains its primitive character. In it is the Church of San Juan Bautista, from the end of the 15th century, one of the oldest of the Islands. Its cover, gotico-mudejar, and the Flemish altarpiece representing the Nativity, donated by the conquistador Cristóbal García del Castillo, are from the beginning of the 16th century. A Mexican Christ made with paste of corn, which weighs only 5 kg, and a St. Bernard of the Italian painter Vicente Carducci are other gems of the treasure of this church.

  • Supposedly it is raised on an ancient pre-Hispanic village. The area of San Juan along with the San Francisco is one of the most emblematic of Telde.
