Pont del Diable, Tarragona

4.6
See, and even walk on top of, Pont del Diable, a structure built by the Romans thousands of years ago. Originally designed to bring water to the ancient city of Tárraco (now Tarragona) from the Francolí River, this aqueduct is a lasting example of what the Romans accomplished. Walk along this structure on your own, or take a tour to learn more about its history. Part of the Archaeological Ensemble of Tarraco, which was added to UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites in 2000, this aqueduct is two levels high, reaching a maximum height of 27 m (89 ft) and a length of 249 m (817 ft). • This monument is very well conserved. It shows exactly how water was transported during the Roman Empire. You can actually walk inside the water channel at the top. The place is tricky to find, even w...  more »

  • Wow, just wow! Amazed at this Roman aqueduct, the state off preservation, and that we were able to walk all the way across it. Easily and cheaply reached from Town centre by public service bus (return from the same drop off stop)
  • Worth a visit. It’s free and has parking . It’s tucked away between several busy roads and with the smell of the pine forest first thing in the morning it’s as if you’ve been transported back 2000 years. Magical. There is also a cafe
  • Amazing that this structure is still around after 2000 years. This is very well preserved structure from the Roman era. Worth walking in and climbing up to the structure itself.
  • Lovely place to visit for a morning. Interesting and fun for kids. Nice cafe to have a drink at before leaving.
  • One of the most complete aqueducts I’ve seen. Best thing is that it’s situated within a park so it makes for a nice visit outside of the city. Great place for a little picnic . The most special part was that you can actually walk across the top of the aqueduct !
