Circ Roma, Tarragona

Circ Roma once offered the most popular mass spectacle of its time: chariot races. Modern Tarragona was built on top of many such ruins. In the first century, this one formed part of a monumental complex. It measures 325 x 115 m (1060 x 380 ft), much of which remains well preserved. Climb up the tower for a great view of the city, and check out the museum and underground tunnels. • ... three arches just remain, and, frankly, if the visit does not included the praetor's Tower, it would be pretty lame. I recommend removing an entry to visit multiple monuments

  • The visit to the circus, we liked to 1/4 of what you can currently only visit was really. The first part of the tour you report the various buildings of the city, temples and location. You also agree to an ancient tower where on the top balcony you have views of all the old part of the city (impressive). The second part of the visit, allows you to see remains of the original Roman inscriptions (some funeral and other stories). Finally access to the inside of the stands at the circus, a long corridor with a great lighting that allows for great photos. During the tour, you can access the old warehouses and a balcony that goes towards the ancient track of the circus. To complete the visit there out of the enclosure and moving on to the second part, where access to the stands, part of the curve, main entrance (with the amphitheatre) and visit the unique 3 "voltas" preserved.

  • The circ is relatively poorly preserved Roman. We can have an interesting idea of a pequenissima part of where it would do the races, however, much of the area history is under the city of Tarragona. Nevertheless, the visit to the tunnels of the circ and the ascent to glimpse one of the curves of the enclosure is very worthwhile!

  • Even better than the amphitheatre! So much is underground in large vaulted tunnels and chambers which cannot be seen from above. Superb location for photos and to see Roman architecture on a vast scale.
  • F**king closed on sunday and monday. The two days we were visiting Tarragona. Stupid and so not economic.
  • Awe-inspiring! So humbling to stand amongst architecture and artifacts from as early as the 1st century.
  • It was a great visit and very pretty and exciting for people who are interested in the bullfighting history. Definitely a place that deserves a visit.
  • They have some beautiful ruins around town but they are surrounded by highly developed to tourism. Of course the best view of the ruin is for a small fee.
