  • The quarry of Mèdol, had a paramount importance in the construction of monuments and cities of the ancient Roman Empire, especially in Tarraco (Tarragona), through Via Augusta, whose path, has been copied in large part by the current network of motorways. From a nearby petrol station, where an audiovisual from the quarry, you can see gets awaken the interest of the visitor. Effectively, through a singular path accessible to the quarry and a series of viewpoints, (there is an interpretation centre), that allow to see it in its entirety. . In the area of El Clot, the needle of the Médol, is located in the southern area, which with its 16 m high, gives us an accurate idea of the level of the ground in that area. His mere vision impresses with its appearance of monolith, witness to history. By its state of conservation, beauty and historical reference, it was declared by Unesco World Heritage. If you have time and means, it is advisable to visit him.

  • Something that is not common in our day is to see how it was an exploitation of stone which was active more than two millennia. It is the largest and best preserved of six quarries Roman Tarragona.

  • It is unusual to be able to visit a Roman quarry and is in an excellent condition. It is far from the city and have to go by car and walk a bit through the forest.
