Art Museum Architectural Building
Housed in an ornate former convent dating back to 1594, Seville Museum of Fine Arts features works by mostly Spanish artists from the medieval period until the early 20th century. A collection of paintings from the Golden Age of Sevillian painting, which dates to the 17th century and includes pieces by Zurbarán, Murillo, and Leal, serves as the highlight. The works are arranged chronologically throughout the museum, helping you see the development of Spanish painting over a handful of centuries. • Took my mother the artist. The old convent which houses the museum is beautiful. My daughter the art student gave us the tour. Read before you go or take a tour. Interesting! There were no lines.  more »
  • Well laid out gallery flows well through history. Not unexpectedly the early, and most, rooms contain religious art. This felt a bit repetitive. Otherwise, lovely building, especially the cloisters an...  more »

  • This museum definitely exceeded my expectations. I tried to not go to art museums when I'm abroad because I can see that everywhere. However, one of the grand rooms has a magnificent ceiling that cannot be missed! You have to pay about 1-2 euros if you're not a student and also another 1 euro to use a locker. The court yard was also really pretty. I would recommend this to travelers, although not a must-stop.
  • A great way to spend an afternoon. The art is good with some pieces exceptional. The architecture got my attention even more.
  • Excellent collection, well thought out rooms. A nice experience and opportunity to see some really great works.
  • Worth a visit. Amazing pieces displayed and the building is interesting also. I went in a Sunday and got in for free. There are also local artists out on the plaza in front of the museum on Sundays.
  • The Museum and the paintings are great, a must see! Yet, do not forget to come with a coin of €1 for the lockers or come with a very very small bag, otherwise the staff will be less than helpful and you will miss the opportunity to visit the museum. This was the black spot of the visit.

Where to stay in Seville

Seville's flat, grid-like city center makes it one of Spain's most walkable cities. While no part of the center is more than a 15-minute walk away, you might enjoy staying on one of the many picturesque cobblestone streets leading off from the famous Cathedral in Plaza España. Boutique hotels and historical apartment rentals intermix with the old quarter's tapa bars and Andalusian storefronts. Nearby, Barrio Santa Cruz is a bit quieter than the main plaza but still boasts the city's sought-after old-world charm. Across the river is the Triana neighborhood, where a lack of heavy tourism has preserved the strong local scene in this mainly residential area full of traditional restaurants and corner bars.
