Architectural Building Religious Site
One of the largest Gothic churches in the world, Seville Cathedral is the final resting place of Christopher Columbus and a World Heritage Site. The awe-inspiring cathedral is 126 m (413 ft) long and 83 m (272 ft) wide, built on the site of a former mosque. The mosque’s minaret, now serving as a converted bell tower, still stands right next to the cathedral. Climb up this emblematic tower for sweeping views of Seville, or tour the interior to see the longest nave of any cathedral in the country. Inside the main body of the cathedral, the most noticeable features are the choir lofts and the carved scenes from the life of Christ. A single craftsman, Pierre Dancart, spent his entire life completing the work on the richly detailed altarpiece, considered one of the finest in the world. Where to stay in Seville

Seville's flat, grid-like city center makes it one of Spain's most walkable cities. While no part of the center is more than a 15-minute walk away, you might enjoy staying on one of the many picturesque cobblestone streets leading off from the famous Cathedral in Plaza España. Boutique hotels and historical apartment rentals intermix with the old quarter's tapa bars and Andalusian storefronts. Nearby, Barrio Santa Cruz is a bit quieter than the main plaza but still boasts the city's sought-after old-world charm. Across the river is the Triana neighborhood, where a lack of heavy tourism has preserved the strong local scene in this mainly residential area full of traditional restaurants and corner bars.

  • Largest Gothic cathedral in the world. Construction started in the 1184 AD where the Giralda Tower served as the minaret of the Almohad Mosque that stood on the site under Muslim rule. Following the conquest of Seville by Ferdinand III, the mosque was Christianized and since has been renovated with additions. However, you can still see the Moorish architecture in the Giralda Tower and courtyard. The cathedral also holds the burial site of Christopher Columbus. Would highly recommend visiting this historical sight.
  • It really is a delight. I didn't purchase the audio tour and I wish I had. It's only €3. So many wonders and treasures inside would have loved to learn more fun facts. Don't necessarily get in the queue before it opens. Go 15/20mins after and the line is shorter. Climb the tower, it's ramped and it's worth it. Avoid on the hour and half past as the bells are loud!
  • Wonderful place. Very opulent and grand. Make sure that you do the audio tour. Amazing sculptures and paintings.
  • WOW! 10 stars. This place is spectacular! I've been to St Peter's Basilica in Rome (long time ago) and this place is more amazing with the architecture, art, statues and sarcophaguses, including Christopher Columbus' (most likely). An absolute, unquestionable, without a doubt Must See in Sevilla. And be sure to hike up to the bell tower for an incredible view.
  • The Tomb of Columbus alone is worth the visit, plus you get access to climb to the top of the Giralda. The climb is mostly by ramp although we were not able to go up as it would be too long and tiring with an infant. There are many small sections that are stunning to see. If you want to avoid the lines during the peak season you can buy tickets online if the site works for you (it uses Flash so it won't work on modern phones).
