Museo de la Condesa de Lebrija, Seville

4.5
#7 of 36 in Museums in Seville
Decorated with pieces of other buildings and artwork from all over the world, Museo de la Condesa de Lebrija is one of the finest houses in Seville. Some of the tiles used to piece together the many mosaics were retrieved from an abandoned convent, and a coffered ceiling and a frieze were reclaimed from a 16th-century palace. Although it is commonly called a palace, the building was actually once the residence of a countess, not a king or queen. Countess Lebrija collected the artifacts that are displayed on the ground floor. Guided tours of the upper rooms showcase ornamented walls and furniture. These take place daily and can be booked the day of your visit. • The Moorish ancestry of Andalucía is apparent in this beautiful house that belonged to the Countess of Lebrija between 1901 and 1914. The floors are covered in Roman mosaics and the walls with Moorish...  more »
  • Without a doubt the best mosaics from mosaic tiles that I have seen to date, all placed with a great taste.

  • I was lucky enough to visit several times this great House City Palace, and the truth is that few imagine what you will see inside, with the appearance of the facade, a facade more in the street, but its central courtyard for one of the best in the city, being part of the elite of casas palacio of sevilla : "Pilate" this House and House of Salinas, with a spectacular mosaic that its original owner (of the House) acquired Italica, a small cut Archaeological Museum, and all a haven of peace. The House is divided into two levels, for my the interesting is the lower part that at the top is the part most "private" noble salons and rooms of travel for my without artistic or cultural interest that if the views of the mosaic from the floor are fantastic. Absolutely essential!

Where to stay in Seville

Seville's flat, grid-like city center makes it one of Spain's most walkable cities. While no part of the center is more than a 15-minute walk away, you might enjoy staying on one of the many picturesque cobblestone streets leading off from the famous Cathedral in Plaza España. Boutique hotels and historical apartment rentals intermix with the old quarter's tapa bars and Andalusian storefronts. Nearby, Barrio Santa Cruz is a bit quieter than the main plaza but still boasts the city's sought-after old-world charm. Across the river is the Triana neighborhood, where a lack of heavy tourism has preserved the strong local scene in this mainly residential area full of traditional restaurants and corner bars.
