Segovia Aqueduct, Segovia

Admire original Roman architecture at Segovia Aqueduct, which is widely considered one of the most significant and best-preserved ancient monuments left in Spain. Marvel at the 166 stone arches of age-old engineering that transported water into the city for over 18 centuries. You can walk the entire 17 km (11 mi) of the aqueduct or just visit the portion that towers over the center of the city. Stop and have a coffee in Azoguejo Square, where the full splendor of this monument is visible. • The aqueduct of Segovia is a Roman aqueduct carrying water to the city from spring of Fuenfría, located in the mountains close to 17 kilometers from the city. Its construction dates from the beginning of the 2nd century d. C, at the end of the reign of the Emperor Trajan or principles of the Adriano. The most visible, and therefore famous, is archery which crosses the Azoguejo square in the city. It is a monument in prefect State of conservation. Beautiful, different and unique.

  • You meet with him immediately the eyes and long can't deviate from the obtained impression! Firstly it is huge, especially if we take into account an estimated time of its construction and the fact that this is what's left. Secondly it was running water pipe with cleaning! facilities. Thirdly, on his background produces very beautiful pictures. Our trip was different because we chose February) it was a surprise to themselves! Particularly successful playing snowballs with her daughter, right on the ancient streets of the city! When the trees around us with green canopies, folding under the weight of white blankets. We dressed about as for the cool, slightly frosty days of late autumn, i.e. gloves-sure! Although many small delightful lavchonok, in which you can dress warmly for the quite acceptable 10-12 euros.

  • Simply amazing. The whole place is mystical. A small town with lots of history. Easy to walk around and nice people. I did a day trip with my family but I could easily spend couple of relaxing days with lazy strolls in streets which make you feel as if you are in some ancient Roman times. Highly recommended
  • It would have been nice if it was still intact, having been in use until the late 19th century but what is left is still impressive and the surroundings not too touristy. If you look carefully each stone has an indentation in it which was used to grasp them so they could be lifted into position. The Romans knew how to do large scale and long lasting plumbing in the first century!
  • Stunning example of an aquaduct with great viewpoints both below and from above. Segovia has much more to offer, especially by simply taking to the streets. The ancient Roman architecture is well-known and well-preserved.. Make sure to climb the steps to the upper section, as the views are astounding.
  • Not much to say here others haven't already said. It's incredibly impressive. Walking up the stairs to the left by the tourist office is a must for great views, but you can also follow the aqueduct in the other direction and there are some good views of the aqueduct with the cathedral visible between arches. Walking even further the aqueduct turns into just a wall but it's nice to walk that way to escape the crowds.
  • A must see if you visit Madrid. It's only 30 min train ride away. A nice day trip. The aqueduct is in amazing condition, well preserved. To avoid the big bus tours, stay until the early evening before heading back to Madrid.
