Iglesia de la Vera Cruz, Segovia

(280+ reviews on the web)
Religious Site
Built by the Knights Templar to house a piece of the True Cross, or the cross that Jesus was crucified on, Iglesia de la Vera Cruz was constructed to be a shrine. However, the fragment of the cross didn't stay in the structure long: it's currently located in a village church nearby. The shrine now stands as a historical curiosity, distinguished by 12 walls whose geometric shape is broken only by a tower on the south side. Visit the lookout point near the Alcazar, a Moorish palace in Seville, to get the best perspective on the structure. Inside the shrine is a two-story gallery where the Knights Templar may have kept vigil over the piece of wood. Climb the tower for another view, this time of the Alcazar. • Other essential on the visit to the city of Segovia. Small church on the outskirts of Segovia, at the foot of the Citadel, and next to the monastery of el Parral, belonging originally to the order of the Holy Sepulchre, and later to the Temple, where are buried some of the great masters of the Temple

  • Templars in all your stones, I feel not to visit it by the time you arrive. But I'll be back. Its stones speak and not be because. In addition the views of the Palace from here are also tremendous. But this Church of Vera Cruz exudes history, history, written history and which remains to write.
