Iglesia de la Vera Cruz, Segovia
(4.5/5 based on 260+ reviews on the web)
Built by the Knights Templar to house a piece of the True Cross, or the cross that Jesus was crucified on, Iglesia de la Vera Cruz was constructed to be a shrine. However, the fragment of the cross didn't stay in the structure long: it's currently located in a village church nearby. The shrine now stands as a historical curiosity, distinguished by 12 walls whose geometric shape is broken only by a tower on the south side. Visit the lookout point near the Alcazar, a Moorish palace in Seville, to get the best perspective on the structure. Inside the shrine is a two-story gallery where the Knights Templar may have kept vigil over the piece of wood. Climb the tower for another view, this time of the Alcazar. • This attraction must see. On the way to the Church at the edge of the road is worth to look at a very simple stone cross. Iglesia de la Vera Cruz, drew attention for its strong outlines and history related to the mystical and mysterious order of Knights Templar. Inside the building there is a luxurious altar Oriental style, with which it carved arches, three chapels and incompletely preserved Romanesque painting.

  • It is a Romanesque church of 12 sides that mimics the San Sepulcro de Jerusalen, which is added at times most recent a belfry, Templar, is headquarters of the hospitable Knights, has a rare peculiarity: on their rooftops never settles any bird. Essential

  • Templars in all your stones, I feel not to visit it by the time you arrive. But I'll be back. Its stones speak and not be because. In addition the views of the Palace from here are also tremendous. But this Church of Vera Cruz exudes history, history, written history and which remains to write.
