A fortress that was part of the inspiration for Walt Disney's Cinderella Castle, Alcazar of Segovia is one of Spain's most popular historical sites, once home to the Spanish royal family. The first thing you'll notice about the castle is its characteristic shape, designed to resemble the bow of a ship. Although this design may have been intended to showcase Spain's military might, it also served an aesthetic purpose. In 1862, the original interior was damaged in a fire, but many of the rooms are restored. Don't miss the Hall of Kings, where you'll find a mural depicting Spanish royalty through Juana la Loca. • Really beautiful castle, both inside and out. We visited during the week and late in the afternoon when it was pretty quiet. Do take the tower trip, fantastic views from the top.

  • One of the more interesting castles we’ve been too. If you’re staying in Madrid I highly recommend renting a car and coming up here! Parking is cheap and very easy on the street and you can walk the entire city within 15 minutes.
  • I'd give it 6 stars if I could. Truly stunning castle in a dramatic position, at the end of a rocky outcrop which the city of Segovia is built on. It's been rebuilt several times over the centuries, resulting in its current iconic appearance. The interior is also very impressive with ornate ceilings, throne room, weapons and suits of armour. It's worth visiting the viewpoints across the valley and from the river below to see the castle from other positions.
  • An impressive fortification, later adapted for other uses. Its location affords some breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. A collection of weapons and a very interesting showing on the history of artillery provide a great opportunity to learn about the military arts of the time. This is also a rare example of a fortified castle where nobility had rooms in the first floor, at the same level of the entrance.
  • A great place to visit in Segovia. They have done a great job of maintaining the castle so you get access to almost all of it. The view from the top is also pretty great (you do have to pay to climb up though)
  • I could visualize the women of yesteryear walking around in their long dresses and the men in their fine attire. Lovely castle and view. Be sure to look up and admire the variety of ceilings. You won't find those in the US.
