Alcazar de Segovia, Segovia
(4.6/5 based on 3,200+ reviews on the web)
A fortress that was part of the inspiration for Walt Disney's Cinderella Castle, Alcazar de Segovia is one of Spain's most popular historical sites, once home to the Spanish royal family. The first thing you'll notice about the castle is its characteristic shape, designed to resemble the bow of a ship. Although this design may have been intended to showcase Spain's military might, it also served an aesthetic purpose. In 1862, the original interior was damaged in a fire, but many of the rooms are restored. Don't miss the Hall of Kings, where you'll find a mural depicting Spanish royalty through Juana la Loca. • I had heard that Walt Disney had been inspired by this Alcazar for his Fantasyland castle and I can see why. With it's beautiful turrets standing proud and the main tower keeping watch over all. It ha...  more »
  • Very well preserved and not too expensive, is worth the trouble to take a beautiful walk to the Alcázar and lowering the calories of food, surely there are few. Whenever visited Segovia I came to see him.

  • If there is the place where Snow White would live - this is it. Ex-royal palace, ex-prison, ex-military academy, now Museum that shows every peace of place original history. You can see not only great armory but also royal rooms as they were 500 and 200 years ago. Must see.
  • Its a fine place but Im giving it a low score for lack of good support for non spanish tourists. This includes a whole artillery museum with only one word written in english: "exit".
  • Absolutely amazing palace, with a real "disney castle" look about it. Gets very busy with tourists in summer (currently July and the queue to get in was huge). Nice little cafe next door if you want to rest for a coffee/drink or snack. You can only use their toilets if you are a paying customer as they give you a coin to unlock the toilet door. There are better cafés in Segovia, but this one has a lovely view of the Church from the outside tables.
  • Amazing castle with amazing surrounding spaces. Nice to have the long walk all around Segovia and end up at the castle!
  • The surrounding view from the alcazar is really great, both visibility and its beauty. One can imagine why it was built at that spot. Next to the alcazar, there is a small museum with scaled models of medieval weapons. Unfortunately, the descriptions were in Spanish, not English.
