The City of Culture of Galicia, Santiago de Compostela

(1.8/5 based on 260+ reviews on the web)
Designed by American architect Peter Eisenman, the buildings of The City of Culture of Galicia look like rolling hills. After the budget ballooned from the original forecast, however, the developer halted construction. There is a museum that hosts temporary exhibits, but check online in advance to see if any interest you. • I went to visit him and the Museum was closed, the area is quite lonely, visited the library and there was almost nothing, only worth if you have any interest in architecture

  • It is inexplicable that is has failed to invest in this place many, many millions, and is still unfinished. And not only that but there what finished is so high the cost of its maintenance which is in continued decline. Mortgage to Santiago and Galicia on a whim.

  • Far from the city, is disappointing. In the middle of a mountain has been built what? It is not very well known to what serves or has a great aesthetic beauty... The visit, not worth it I do not recommend it.

  • Must see in any pilgrim's itinerary! The most contemporary building of Galicia! The City of Culture is one of the landmark buildings by Peter Eisenmann. A construction project with a budget of over half a Billion euros. The project got cancelled and is missing the central building that was going to be Europe's largest Opera House. Instead a beautiful lake formed at the top of the Hill Gaias.
  • Great place, everything is right. The city known worldwide with so many tourists, the location just outside of it on a hill close to main roads, great architecture. Everything is in place, but... Never finished and on a sunny sunday afternoon I was almost on my own to look around and see how it all was meant to be. Very interesting.
  • Must visit (if you are an Architect). While the spaces are amazing, this is yet another starchitect failure to put the interests of the client before their own. Only 4 out of 8 buildings ever saw the light, and the technical contortionisms required to materialised Eisenman's vision left so much to desire. Over budgeted, over schedule, over specified and over designed... Perhaps only time will tell.
  • Scale of complex is impressive as well as its setting. They have interesting exhibitions and events here. Contraversial as it will never be finished and given its long term maintenance costs!
  • It's pity that's not finished yet
