The view from Mirador Parque da Alameda is an emblem of the city that fills every postcard rack in town. The cathedral takes center stage for this view over the historic district, as it did spiritually throughout the city's development. Seen from this angle, you can admire the details that make the cathedral an architectural feat. Don't forget to bring your camera to capture the panoramic spectacle. Where to stay in Santiago de Compostela

Lodging in the city's old district is the most scenic option. Some hotels even offer rooms in renovated historical buildings near the cathedral. Consider a stay in Monte do Gozo, a small town just outside the city that offers 2,000 beds to weary pilgrims.
