(4.4/5 based on 360+ reviews on the web)
The Hostal dos Reis Católicos, also called the Hotel de Los Reyes Católicos or Parador de Santiago, is a 5-star Parador hotel, located in Santiago de Compostela, Galicia, Spain. The hotel was constructed as a religious work in 1486, by Ferdinand and Isabel, the Catholic Monarchs. It is widely considered the oldest continuously operating hotel in the world, and has also been called the "most beautiful hotel in Europe"The Pilgrimage TrailThe Hostal dos Reis Católicos sits at the very end of famous pilgrimage trail, the Way of St. James, next to the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral.Pilgrims from all over Europe, throughout the Middle Ages, both rich and poor, followed the Way of St. James, and arrived in Santiago de Compostela. In the late 15th century Ferdinand and Isabel themselves completed the pilgrimage across northern Spain. As a sign of their religious piety, and their growing economic and political might, they began a program to improve the infrastructure and support services on the pilgrimage trail in Spain. They built new hostels, bridges, churches, and public wells. The most improvement project by Isabel and Ferdinand was the Hostal, right next to the great cathedral at the very end of the pilgrimage trail. The Hostal de los Reyes Catolicos served as a hospice and a hospital, where pilgrims could recover and rejuvenate after completing the pilgrimage. The Hostal had a multi-lingual staff of doctors, nurses, and priests on call 24 hours a day; and provided all services free of charge. Pilgrims were allowed to recover at the Hostal for 3 days in the Summer, and 5 days in the Winter.

  • Several times I have I stayed at this hotel. I have enjoyed of their facilities and their restaurant. It has rooms of all kinds from a small room to the suite of the cardinal. Each floor is decorated in a way and four courtyards are different and spectacular. All their stones has history and its Moss builds up many unforgettable experiences. Good restaurant. I advise you to enjoy it fully; don't look much their prices but what they offer. You can talk quietly in their classrooms. Its Chapel is beautiful and its very well-prepared event rooms. NOT TO BE MISSED.

  • Only to see it from the outside, the intention is to see inside. Is of an attraction total. Enter to look at the menu and we gave it turned: is a parador of five star great luxury, but it understand. The portalada of entrance and the lobby, that are free, worth it penalty observe them and enjoy them.

  • We stopped here for drinks and snacks after visiting the Cathedral. We were served in an inner courtyard with tables in the shade. It was a welcome respite on a hot and sunny day.
  • You won't find a hotel like this anywhere else in the world
  • As a restaurant.
  • We were in the Enxebre. I caught my attention the excellent service. The food very well, ate chop at a great price.

  • Super recommended visit in Santiago de Compostela. The Town Hall has a tour of the Cathedral and adjacent areas where to include this visit. It is short but helps to see the inside with more details.
