Puerto Chico, Santander

(4.3/5 based on 240+ reviews on the web)
Once a lively fishing port in the mid 19th century, Puerto Chico is now somewhat calmer, but has not lost the charm that once drew painters and writers from afar. With views of mountain and sea, this tranquil promenade is the perfect place to spend a leisurely afternoon. Sample tapas and fresh seafood along the way, or rest your feet and take in the views on one of the many benches that line the path. Continue east toward the Peninsula de la Magdalena to explore the early 20th-century Palacio de la Magdalena and its gardens, or the nearby beaches of golden sand. You may want to rent a bike to reach the peninsula or go farther north to the beach of Sardinero, which is regarded as one of the most elegant beach resorts in Spain. Puerto Chico is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our world travel planner, Santander Edition.

  • The marina in the center of the city of Santander. A nice place to walk. Beautiful view of the Bay of Santander.  more »
  • Walk (not drive) to Puerto Chico as the walk along the seafront is rather nice. The marina is has no longer any historical 'old' feel to it. That is a shame as the history is interesting.  more »

  • Old neighborhood of fishermen and today one of the noble areas of the city. With a special light, usually provide good photographs.

  • Good views of the sea, if you are here you have to see the pescadera, the raqueros and the Museum of prehistory.
