Puerto Chico, Santander

(4.3/5 based on 220+ reviews on the web)
Once a lively fishing port in the mid 19th century, Puerto Chico is now somewhat calmer, but has not lost the charm that once drew painters and writers from afar. With views of mountain and sea, this tranquil promenade is the perfect place to spend a leisurely afternoon. Sample tapas and fresh seafood along the way, or rest your feet and take in the views on one of the many benches that line the path. Continue east toward the Peninsula de la Magdalena to explore the early 20th-century Palacio de la Magdalena and its gardens, or the nearby beaches of golden sand. You may want to rent a bike to reach the peninsula or go farther north to the beach of Sardinero, which is regarded as one of the most elegant beach resorts in Spain. Puerto Chico is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our world travel planner, Santander Edition.

  • Puerto Chico, is the most emblematic of the Bay of Santander, is a beautiful area to walk, because following the line of the sea, can be walked to the beach of the dangers, in about 20 minutes, and that is a beautiful promenade, with many banks and places for rest, in that same ride is the Museo Marítimo del Cantábrico that deserves a visit. All Puerto Chico, whether itself, it has become the area where you will find the best restaurants in Santander, both higher price as average price, there is something for everyone, but above all highlights the specialized in fish and seafood, the Bombi, El Serbal, El Puerto, the flower of Tetuan, Marucho, La Mulata, in any of these you can eat very well. In Puerto Chico also is located the street Castelar, that besides have very good restaurants as the Vors and it Posada of the sea, all the street is full of pubs and cafes with terrace in which take a coffee or a cup well put. From Puerto Chico, to the center of the city and the shopping area, it takes approximately 10 minutes walking, and you can go around the seaside promenade which is very nice.
