  • Sculptural group of the Raqueros which represents some children by jumping into the water and became as a memory of the guys who a few years ago onto the Bay to catch the coins tourists throwing them. A difficult time is a nice memory.

  • The raqueros represent the children who were formerly in the port, you dropped them a coin and children threw the Bay to pick it up and keep it. By the promenade is easy to reach, is in the Centre of the city and next to another work that represents the writer José Hierro, and near Puertochico.

  • If Santander visits shouldn't ignore these strange statues, you located on the promenade, parallel to the paseo Pereda and close to the Royal Maritime Club. Always have people to his around, both day and night. Today are private, but we must not forget that they recall a time of misery and poverty, that for some children who lived almost in the port, where they fished and made the times of buffoons for people approaching to Santander and from vessels (tourists or wealthy people) threw them a few dogs (coins) water so they removed them diving It was a fun for who did it; These guys also recover things of the water that fell from the pier and gave them a few miseras coins. Specifically are four statues, a foot guy, sitting two and a quarter by jumping to the sea. At her feet reads a plaque describing them and remembering to José María de Pereda (Polanco natural Cantabrian writer), very well described them in his works at the end of the 19th and early s 20th. Say that they are accessible to everyone. The only thing you need to be careful with young children as there is no railing on the promenade.

  • The statues are amusing and I am quite impressed that are there since 19 th century
  • One of the most famous Statues of Santander.
  • Really interesting sculpture that depicts a very local figure: los raqueros kids that would dive into the pier to catch the coins thrown by tourists of old times. Beatifully crafted and very well placed by the pier. I suggest a nice walk to enjoy the renovated seawalk until in order to enjoy small landmarks like this one or grua de piedra
  • Visit a must if you come to Santander.

Where to stay in Santander

For views over the water and a wide selection of restaurants, consider staying near the Puerto Chico, or "little port," area. Lodging on the historical Camino de Santiago en Santander street puts you in the path of many of the city's walking tours. The streets that jut off Alameda de Oviedo are full of markets, cafes, and shops that put you in the middle of activity.
