  • visit of the library then of the casa of Menéndez pelayo, exceptional personality. allows to discover life and quite fascinating work of this man who bequeathed his incredible to the city of Santander library provided that ever thousands of rare books are separated... The set is impressive furniture storage, classification, display cases and shelves of the beginning of the 20th century. the guide that presents the House is very courteous even though the visit in Spanish allows us to understand the outline of this visit, he listens and answers questions with availability. It is true that we were alone in the early morning. Visit quite touching when we know the history of this family.

  • You serve great, project you a video and you talk about his life. Then you can see the House and the person who taught you is lovely. Re-fuel, rather than go on skewers.

  • Although they really are two different museums, are adjacent, and worth visiting them together for a little understanding this part of the history of Santander. The two buildings can be visited free of charge, in general the library is only open for tours until 11:30 (since then researchers use it) and although at first you visits are every half an hour, depending on the flow of the public may you arrive and enter directly. The visit, lasting about 15 minutes, consists of an explanatory video of the life of Menéndez Pelayo and subsequently entering the library itself, at any time can make any question to the library staff. As for the House-Museum, the visit also lasts approximately 15 minutes, in this case, rooms only can be seen from the outside and is not a guided tour if not that there are information panels in each room. In this case the opening times are broader, from 9:30 to 13:30 and Tuesday and Thursday opens in the afternoon. Anyway, it is better to make schedules in the tourist offices. Highly recommended free visit.

Where to stay in Santander

For views over the water and a wide selection of restaurants, consider staying near the Puerto Chico, or "little port," area. Lodging on the historical Camino de Santiago en Santander street puts you in the path of many of the city's walking tours. The streets that jut off Alameda de Oviedo are full of markets, cafes, and shops that put you in the middle of activity.
