Playa de Las Gaviotas, Santa Cruz de Tenerife

The Playa de Las Teresitas is a beach north of the village of San Andrés municipality of Santa Cruz de Tenerife in Tenerife, Spain.Originally the beach consisted of mostly rocks and a small strip of black sand. It was divided into three distinct parts that had different names: Tras la Arena which was the original, Los Moros in the middle, and finally the area bounded by the ravine of Las Teresas. In 1973, 270,000 tons of white sand was shipped from Spanish Sahara (now Western Sahara, part of the Sahara Desert) to create an artificial beach of white sand. Two piers and a kilometer long breakwater located 150 meters from the beach was constructed to prevent waves from carrying the sand out to the sea. The project cost 50 million pesetas and in addition 400 million pesetas in 1998 when another 2,800 tonnes sand from Sahara was added to replenish the sand lost in the beach's 25 first years of existence. It is one of the most popular beaches of the Canary Islands, and is one of the few on Tenerife that do not have the black, volcanic sand that most of the rest of the Canary Islands have. Others such as Las Vistas, in Los Cristianos, are artificial, but the beach at El Médano (the Dune) is entirely natural.Curiosities The Playa de Las Teresitas was chosen for the promotional spot for the third season of the reality show, Geordie Shore, "Chaos in Cancún" (aired on MTV in the UK). On the beach of Las Teresitas there is an important paleontological site of the Quaternary. It is a submarine reservoir in a submerged beach, approximately 400 square meters. It contains fossil mollusks, some endemic.

The best beach in Tenerife even if it is a NUDIST beach. The beach is isolated, the sand is black (no stones, no stones), there is a parking for cars. Access is only by car, the way to get there is dangerous however. No sunbeds on the beach. There are big waves, attention to children this beach is quite appropriate! The setting is magical. You really feel away from tourist places. I do 1 hour drive away nothing to go to Las Gaviotas.

It is a beach of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which though it has all the services and comforts of other beaches in other parts of the island, offers the charm of the typical black sand of tenerife and the proximity to the Centre of Santa Cruz. That yes I recommend go to 9:00 am 10:00 am at the latest, because otherwise you will not find where parking or where to put the towel. From 10:30 am/11:00 am to get the worst of the inhabitants of Santa Cruz so it is good to leave time to start. I recommend also watching the tides, best to go when it is falling. You can also take the dog or make Nudism without problem

Small beach with a single bar and very bad access. The beach is fine, but getting there is a road with many curves and very narrow. Very careful!
