Architectural Building
Located only 20 minutes outside of Barcelona, Colonia Guell Gaudi Crypt is a must-see for fans of Antoni Gaudí, or anyone interested in surreal architecture. Work on the church began in 1890, funded by Count Eusebi de Güell, but his financial problems prevented its completion and only the crypt was finished. Here, Gaudí pioneered many of the techniques he would later use in the Sagrada Familia. He created an inverse model of the church by hanging birdshot from a network of strings, allowing him to discover the correct curvature for the pillars and arches. This allowed him to construct the naves without buttresses or supporting walls. Lose yourself inside the structure, which blends in seamlessly with the surrounding hills. Admire the rough-hewn stone columns and stained glass windows while enjoying the audio tour that comes with your visit. • La Cripta Gaudi Colonia Güell is a beautiful place away from the bustle of the city. It represents another aspect of Gaudi's work. The whole site gives further insight into the industrial past of Cata...  more »
  • Despite being very close to Barcelona, very few people visit the colònia Güell. It is worth to organize a guided tour. In our case, two hours with a fantastic Guide, sympathetic, aware in detail of history and good Communicator, achieving two hours they spend flying. (I remember that Nuria - congratulations was called). An hour walking through the Colonia Güell informing of the Foundation of the colony and several anecdotes that allow you to put yourself in that moment of history and assess what came to make the Sr Güell for all their workers. The second time we had visiting the crypt and observing all the constructive and decorative details of Gaudí. A pity that the Church is not could potentially build as Gaudi, had planned it but spectacular anyway with many interesting details. RECOMMENDED 100%

  • He liked to see the crypt of Gaudí and Colònia Güell uncrowded and unhurried. In addition, recommend go it to visit because the play of light in the crypt is spectacular as in the Holy family. And a work of Gaudí always positively surprised by what is worthwhile without d' a.

  • A destination for anyone following the works of Antoni Gaudí. The Cripta Gaudí (Church of Colònia Güell) and the village La Colònia Güell are an experiment by Gaudí's patron and entrepreneur Eusebi Güell. A simple train ride from downtown Barcelona. Spend the day walking around the village and learn a little about this fascinating and forward thinking experiment in a worker owned cooperative. Way ahead of it's time.
  • Cripta Gaudi church is a very nice Gaudi style construction. Is located inside Colonia Guell (a smalll village in Santa Coloma town) at 25 minutes by train from Barcelona. Actually is the only attraction in this area.
  • Simple yet beautiful and usually not crowded at all. Don't miss the other buildings nearby although they're not Gaudi's
  • It is only the church, but very worth to visit!
