Colonia Guell - Gaudi Crypt, Santa Coloma de Cervello

(4.3/5 based on 480+ reviews on the web)
Located only 20 minutes outside of Barcelona, Colonia Guell - Gaudi Crypt is a must-see for fans of Antoni Gaudí, or anyone interested in surreal architecture. Work on the church began in 1890, funded by Count Eusebi de Güell, but his financial problems prevented its completion and only the crypt was finished. Here, Gaudí pioneered many of the techniques he would later use in the Sagrada Familia. He created an inverse model of the church by hanging birdshot from a network of strings, allowing him to discover the correct curvature for the pillars and arches. This allowed him to construct the naves without buttresses or supporting walls. Lose yourself inside the structure, which blends in seamlessly with the surrounding hills. Admire the rough-hewn stone columns and stained glass windows while enjoying the audio tour that comes with your visit. • The crypt is different from everything you've seen and spectacular, but's it the entire colony. Very interesting to walk through it with the audioguide.

  • A village such as guell wanted. With an accent of gaudi. Beautiful church, nice homes and a real Spanish town. Despite the day-trippers very nice and cheap. All in all a nice surprising experience.

  • Cripta Gaudi church is a very nice Gaudi style construction. Is located inside Colonia Guell (a smalll village in Santa Coloma town) at 25 minutes by train from Barcelona. Actually is the only attraction in this area.
  • Simple yet beautiful and usually not crowded at all. Don't miss the other buildings nearby although they're not Gaudi's
  • It is only the church, but very worth to visit!
