Bodega El Grifo - Museo del Vino, San Bartolome

#2 of 9 in Things to do in San Bartolome
Bodega El Grifo - Museo del Vino is the oldest winery of the Canary Islands, and among the ten oldest in all of Spain. Dating back to 1775, this family vineyard is located on 61.5 hectares (150 acres) of land. The work here continues to be carried out manually and with great attention to tradition. Although the wine of today is processed in modern facilities, you can take a look at the older machinery and learn about the historic production of El Grifo wine in the incorporated museum. You can also take a tour of the facility and sample some of their award-winning wines, which include (among others) white Malvasia, red Listán Negro, and sweet Muscat. • Since the red wine El Grifo from the supermarket tasted very good to me, I wanted to buy wine directly in the winery. I tested a small sip of white wine and bought a bottle of wine. At first I hesitated, because the wine was more expensive than in the supermarket. I bought it after all. When you pay the nasty surprise: For the small test swallow an additional 1.80 Euros were charged. I've never experienced that! Even at the smallest winery or in the wine shop I have never had to pay money for a sample sip. The consequence can only be: Never again!

  • A successful stop in this winery that is the oldest in Lanzarote Great history of the island's wine. We did the guided tour of the vineyard and museum with a tasting of 2 wines... in the end we took another one and ordered the cheese board and the sweet potato chips.

  • We visited the current winery, to 2 couples, in French, 12.5 euros/pers for the guided tour - tasting of 3 wines with cheeses. A very interesting visit, Lucas (our guide) is passionate about his work and it's felt! Tasting very appreciated too, although the wines were not quite to our liking. We recommend ''and thank Lucas once again!'

  • Great place to visit. Nice to look around the museum, my 7 year old also enjoyed it and last but not least the wine is excellent. Friendly, knowledgeable staff with a very good selection of wines to taste and buy.
  • Easy to find and easy to park your car. Staff are friendly and know everything about their wines. There are great exhibits and is very educational.
  • A fantastic vineyard full of character and charm. The wine wasn't bad either.
  • Really good mini tour, very interesting and friendly staff.
