Convento Las Claras, Salamanca

(4.6/5 based on 60+ reviews on the web)
Despite its modest exterior, Convento Las Claras draws art lovers with its medieval wall frescoes. Initially founded in the 13th century by a Franciscan order known as the "Poor Clares," the convent retains few of its original Gothic elements due to an extensive renovation project completed in the 16th century. Highlights include the remains of an old wooden ceiling, as well as an on-site museum of village life, filled with everyday household items and tools collected by a local priest. Don't miss the lower choir's well-preserved wall paintings from the 14th century, unexpectedly discovered in 1976 beneath several layers of whitewash. Convento Las Claras is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our online itinerary creator, Salamanca Edition.

  • This convent occupies a full block, on the outside doesn't stand out much. Entry general and only 3.50€, not have any type of discount as for unemployed, something very negative that should change.

  • The convent of Santa Clara is perhaps, a required visit during a stay in Salamanca. He has a few magnificent coffered ceilings of the 13th century, as well as some beautiful paintings in the choir under. Received treatment, as well as the guided tour were excellent. I would without hesitation.
