El Tajo, Ronda

(1,300+ reviews on the web)
Geologic Formation
The town of Ronda seems impossibly perched atop El Tajo, a 130 m (427 ft) canyon yielding views at once spectacular and a little bit frightening. Completed in 1793, the Puente Nuevo spans the gorge, its old age lending it splendor, while making the prospect of crossing slightly unnerving at the same time. If you’re up for a hike, walk the path from town down into the gorge and pass under this bridge, the tallest of three. Stop in the bridge’s small museum, detailing its history and that of the town. • Today I will tell a little bit about our walk in the Rhondda, more precisely on the descent to the river Guadalevin and a small waterfall in the Gorge of El Tajo, that is at the base of the Puente Nuevo (new bridge in Spanish). The bridge itself is one of the main attractions of Ronda, its hallmark. This grandiose construction, architect of "vpletennoe" in a natural landscape, will not leave indifferent the traveller. From the bridge, as well as with viewing platforms (Mirador) offers stunning panoramic views of the city and its surroundings. Once in support of the bridge was a prison, then there was a torture chamber. Now here is placed the museum open to the public. We were like on miradoram around the bridge, at the Museum were not, most of us drew kind of waterfall. The idea down as low as possible to make pictures around. And, as it turned out, you can go straight to the River in the Valley. Near the bridge is the puente nuevo Mirador de Ronda, you can easily find on Google maps. This observation is our point of departure. For fans of extreme sports is the descent directly on a steep rock stairs from metal brackets embedded in rock. To the right of the stairs stretched rope, which, apparently, it is possible krepit carbines for insurance. !!! I must say-how you can use this "path" we do not know, no characters, no trainers so much more, but also no protection. Looks very wildly and clearly not adapted for tourists, i.e. descent-only at your own risk. !!! However, descent on a couple levels passed without incident (without insurance, tested the husband). Later we discovered that on the same level, you can go down the dor ...

  • Beautiful town on the rock, a must see from above but from below, descending by both paved road or on foot via a footpath
