Finca Villacreces, Quintanilla de Onesimo

4.6
#6 of 23 in Wineries in Province of Valladolid
Offering a comprehensive cellar tour and wine-tasting experience, Finca Villacreces sits in a 200-year-old pine forest, one of the area's most picturesque locations. The very first vines were planted here in the 1200s--decades later, the estate was converted into a monastery. Today, the winery covers 115 hectares (285 acres) along the Duero River, which protects the vines from adverse effects of frost. The estate's signature wine is aged for 14 months to develop a full-bodied taste with smoky hits. Reserve your tour in advance by e-mail or phone. • I have visited many wineries and this has been the only one where I could walk among vineyards, with the best explanations about their orientation, pruning, etc... gather all wine produced from its own farm, having separate plots and each one with a name to then separate the grapes from each plot according to wine bottling. The Douro River limited the farm on one side and another important neighbor is the property of Vega Sicilia... Very enjoyable visit that concluded with a tasting of 2 wines: Pruno and Villacreces, paired with Chorizo, cheese Flor de Esgueva and bread with organic olive oil. I totally recommend it!

  • Apart from making one of the best wines of Ribera, the farm is beautiful with its various rooms, and the patio with its tree, the visit lasts more than one hour but the determination and the love they put into their work is makes you short visit since you learn a lot the guide makes you feel at home and you end with a tasting of pruno and villacreces with some portions of sausage and cheese land, ideal for an aperitif before meal. Very good.
