Botanical Gardens, Puerto de la Cruz
Categories: Gardens, Nature & Parks
A center of preservation and research for Macaronesian plant life, the 210 hectares (7 acres) of Botanical Gardens are divided into sectors that showcase specific categories of vegetation. The Macaronesian Ornamental Garden gives you a scented overview of the island's indigenous plants. Another must-see is the Bosque de Laurísílva, where tree species that once covered the island are preserved and cultivated. Visit the La Fuente de Los Sabios, or Wisemen’s Fountain, to pay homage to the botanists who painstakingly worked to study and preserve this plant life. Wonderful selection of plants. Cooler shade and a nice lunch spot at the pond at the far end. A little oasis or quiet... Unless there happens to be a busload of tourists coming in at the same time. A nice way to spend an hour or 2. The fig tree with its air roots is impressive and looks like something out of the Lord of the Rings.
Interesting place to visit if you are in the area. Garden with some of the oldest and rarest tree's and plant's collected from arround the wolrd.
Really cheap entry, fantastic variety of plantlife. Shade makes a nice respite from the heat
Quite cheap (€3). If you're very interested in flowers and plants, this might be an amazing place. Advice to go early, as the place might get quite crowded later in the day.
It's not that big but has surprisingly large selection of exotic plants, definitely worth a look if you enjoy exploring botanical gardens.
