The first time, we could not visit the inside of the Castle, since I didn't have time to do so. Instead, take this opportunity and very happy to therefore take some portions in the restaurant located right there, with a beautiful view of the wonderful landscape that offers the place. This time, we had intended to take and eat something in the restaurant, and visit the inside of the Castle, but we only had a chance to visit the Castle, since the restaurant was closed. The girl who was selling tickets told us that, this year, (2016) nobody ran it. We opted to enter the Castle, and truth be told, although you need packaging arrangements, since you can't go for example, people with some type of problem to walk, (since there are many different levels and stairs) is worth visiting it, to enjoy enchanting views.show original

Pablo Ruiz SanchezIt rises in the steepest part of the Sierra de Alcocer, from which overlooks a wide panoramic view over La Serena and the basins of the rivers Guadiana and Zújar. It is an almost impregnable fortress of military with an airy enclosure and impressive character of irregular shape to thus adapt to the terrain on which it is built. It has two doors, one outgoing and one to the West, its length is 80 m, its width of 47, the walls have 2.10-2, 70 m. its height is 20 m, and the homage Tower is 25 m and 10 diameter. Construction or factory is in brick and the towers alternated double rows of bricks, so alarifes workers of Moorish origin, should take part in it as so credited the use of bricks by sashes, as sales within boxes. Today constitutes a serious problem to determine exactly which is the origin of this fortress, since in the Sierra de Alcocer and not very distant places existed in century XV two different castles, one of them belonging to La Puebla and therefore guarded by a mayor who depended on Toledo to senorializacion of the place, and the other whose owner was the order of Alcantara and whose mission was to the safeguard the Encomienda of Lares, bordering La Puebla. It is virtually impossible to figure out which of the above two is which remains upright at the top of the Sierra de Alcocer. One thing is certain however, the current Puebla's castle was built in territory belonging to the Encomienda de Lares, as specified in a Papal Bull directed to the master don Gutierre, which refers precisely to the existence of the two cited strengths. In any case and outside or not in its origin a fortress of the order of Alcántara, which Castle of La Puebla was without a doubt who built and owned the Sotomayor, as clearly evidenced the shields that still today can be found in the torre del homenaje. Master don Gutierre carried out the restoration of the fortress later to 1449, in which obtained permission of Juan II to do so. This castle played a great part by the years 1400 to 1490 in the wars against the moors of Granada, the King of Portugal, as likewise the observed between this family and the Kingdom of Toledo by the possession of Puebla and its territorial term. Today is dilapidated, because only the walls and the keep tower are preserved in good condition. During the years from 1980 to 1986 have been reconstructed part of the battlements, access to the south wall, the three floors of the Tower of homage, the front door and the dome of the torre del homenaje, still much that remains to be done. From his "Reondon Likewise, you can see the reservoirs of Orellana and about all the sea of la Serena, the reservoir of Spain. It is worth a visit do you, I assure you that you will be pleased. There is a road that climbs up to port along an ancient Roman road and from there to the Castle by a new path.show original
