Vizcaya Bridge, Province of Vizcaya

(4.6/5 based on 750+ reviews on the web)
Often referred to as Vizcaya Bridge, this is the world's oldest transport bridge, built in 1893. Constructed to connect two towns on opposite banks without disrupting the traffic on the Ibaizabal River, it has successfully performed this service since its opening, with only one four-year interruption, during the Spanish Civil War. The bridge is the only Basque monument on UNESCO's World Heritage Site list, and the only industrial heritage site in Spain. • You must visit this monument and return at the time thinking what this bridge stored in their memoria.comunica two very special charm different banks and if you don't have fear of heights climb to its panoramic walkway and enjoy the views of the estuary. It is a real luxury.

  • I do not put a zero because as monument is great, but the service offering of nacelle has gone down in quality with the case of the years while at the same time they increase the price. Plenty of stops of service for maintenance, recreational activities, etc, try unpleasant part of the staff, unjustified delays, frequent rates rises, or a bonus for regular passenger, on machines to remove ticket nor is there anyone, does not offer the possibility to pay with card or tickets... unattended access queues up to fights for people who slipped... I've seen everything. He was a regular for years, but little by little I have finished giving up. The last rise in rates already was the cherry

  • Went in metro line red until Areeta-the sands and to some ten minutes walking I found the bridge. Before I should mention that very nice area where I walked. As for the bridge, very nice experience. By a few cents is crosses to the other shore. Also crossing vehicles. Another option is to climb the bridge, but I did not. On the other side I walked by Portugalete which is very picturesque until the metro blue line station and went back to Bilbao. You can walk by the banks of the River on both sides and the views are beautiful

  • Fantastic early 19th century engineering still in use today. Lovely visit for 7 euros you can ride in the gondola and take the lift to the top and walk over. Signs in English give you the history of the bridge. A world heritage site.
  • A beautiful 19 century bridge. Not to miss in a Bilbao visit. Fantastic views from the top. A witness of the Bilbao's industrial XIX&XX century glory.
  • Gran obra d'enginyeria. Visita molt interessant
  • Can really recommend seeing if you are visiting Bilbao. The view is stunning, and if you get a ticket for walking over, you also get to take the gondola back (in short you can pass it both ways). It is worth noting that the information posts along the walkway on the top seem to be ordered chronologically from the Getxo side to the Portugalete side. A good way to get here is to take the metro from Bilbao.
  • There are three ways to enjoy the view, the best one is taking the elevator that costs 7€ or 5€ with a student card, it's a total must to visit if you're at Bilbao and want to know the surround area
