Parque Natural Fragas do Eume, Pontedeume

(4.8/5 based on 280+ reviews on the web)
One of the best-preserved riverside Atlantic forests in Europe, Parque Natural Fragas do Eume has just 500 residents in its 9,000 hectares (2,200 acres). Cool temperatures and precipitation mean that it qualifies as a temperate rainforest. The best way to explore is on foot; that way, you can spot some of the park’s 200 species of ferns. You might see shades of green you’ve never dreamed of. Keep an eye out for otters, too. Do the hike to the monastery of Saint John of Caaveiro, if you can. • I got on the road that goes from Pontedeume Ombre portal. Silence is spectacular. When you go deeper into the landscape, the vegetation is so thick and the river so powerful that impress and leave behind fully urban rhythm. There is the main road that leads to the monastery of Caaveiro and hiking along the natural park. In the section that goes to Caaveiro there are several bridges, windmills in ruins, buildings for fishermen, atrapaderos of sardines and constructions of conservation of chestnuts. There are many signs of the natural elements of each area of the Park and also features of hiking trails. The two businesses of restoration (one next to the information centre and the other inside the enclosure of the monastery of Caaveiro) are not always open. Some routes (such as Encomendeiros) have a high degree of difficulty.

  • A environment in full nature with River, paths and monuments, that more it can ask? Must visit it if you go through the area of Ferrol

  • Although the road from Pontedeume is rather narrow once you arrive at the car park and start walking you forget about that... It environment that is seen and is breathing is very relaxing and pleasant. The path that it runs parallel to the river is easy to perform. Bridges, River, monastery, shelters are some of the peculiarities of the Park.
