Parque Natural Fragas do Eume, Pontedeume

4.7
#2 of 6 in Nature in Province of A Coruna
One of the best-preserved riverside Atlantic forests in Europe, Parque Natural Fragas do Eume has just 500 residents in its 9,000 hectares (2,200 acres). Cool temperatures and precipitation mean that it qualifies as a temperate rainforest. The best way to explore is on foot; that way, you can spot some of the park’s 200 species of ferns. You might see shades of green you’ve never dreamed of. Keep an eye out for otters, too. Do the hike to the monastery of Saint John of Caaveiro, if you can. The Fragas del Eume are a valuable natural park, located near Pontedeume. In a few minutes, one passes from the atmosphere of beach deep nature. Overlooking the banks of the river Eume are excellent and transmit peace and tranquility. Lack of institutional care and too many loose dogs. Even so, the visit well worth!

We were on Sunday. We arrived about 10 and there were few people, so I recommend that hour to be able to take advantage of the day there. We took the free bus at 10:30 that left us about 10:50 near the monastery. From there we did a 6.5 km walk following parallel to the river. It was spectacular with beautiful landscapes, listening to the sound of water and the nature and seeing small waterfalls of water. Turn we quickly saw the stone bridge and the monastery already didn't give us time because our bus down was at 14:00. When we got to the car had a lot of people everywhere and cars that did not know or where to park. For this reason I recommend arriving early and do some hiking route. TB there are some route close to the road that goes through a couple of bridges but not worth much. The excursion that we did were in nature and hence not. We spent a pleasant morning in the fragas.

This vast forest"(Fraga) of everything that provides complete nature that form it, has diverse alternatives of ride and visit, addition as well as different points of interest. Recommended is your walk by any of the two sides (in the different moments in which you can cross), much better than in transport road, although the tour can be excessive (advisable to consult as much as possible in the information booth), since it opposed the paved promenade is difficult/high and almost exclusive pedestrian... Lowered closer to the River in different sections. Bridges and small waterfalls on both sides. The ruins of an old mill. Picnic or rest areas. Conclusion: Excellent decision, green and Natural for any day of the year.
