Faro de Pechiguera, Playa Blanca

1.9
#4 of 15 in Historic Sites in Lanzarote
Faro de Pechiguera makes an ideal end destination for a walk along the coast. Today there are two lighthouses at this spot. The old lighthouse opened in 1886; it was replaced by a more modern facility which stands next to it, 120 years later. Sit by the lighthouses among the rocks and feel the wild waves crash around you. Take in the views of Lanzarote’s beaches, surrounding hills, and even the coast of Fuerteventura. • The modern Lighthouse says absolutely nothing and the old is in ruins and abandoned. A real shame. It not worth wasting time with this visit.

  • I've only given this 3 stars, just because there's nothing else here apart from a rugged headland and a nice walk along the Maritime walkway. I snorkelled along the coast between Rubicon Palace and Ti...  more »
  • Don't bother. Grotty and nothing special. Far more attractive at night from a distance! Only redeeming feature is the graffiti.  more »

  • What is there to say? There is little in the vicinity other than the sea view and the monolithic towering mass of this lighthouse. Indeed, it dominates the horizon, as it towers ominously over the tumbled waste that surrounds it. But that, in and of itself, makes it a spot worth visiting, if only to get a little further away from the hubbub of the nearby resort. It's quieter out here, particularly at dawn, making it an excellent spot to watch the sunrise in relative peace. There are signs that the expanding resort is inching closer to this area. It isn't hard to imagine a point in the future in which there will be hotels and villas immediately in the vicinity of the lighthouse. Indeed, when I was here in 2016 there were foundations being laid for future properties, on the nearest outskirts of the resort.
  • If you have a hire car then it's worth a short drive for a quick visit. Not a lot to see other than derelict old light house covered in graffiti and it's 1980s replacement.
  • Beautiful views, windy, very remote. If you get a taxi to there, arrange a time to be picked up again. Taxi ranks do not speak English and you will have to walk ten minutes to the nearest restaurant/ bar
  • It's a lighthouse on a rocky coastline. Not much to see but I suppose if you are in the area for a stroll.
  • One of those places you feel like you need to visit. Not spectacular. Lots of wind and waves.
