Trip Planner: Europe / Spain / Valencian Country / Province of Castellon / Peniscola / Peniscola Castle
A 14th-century castle built on the remains of a Moorish citadel. Study information displays and artifacts to learn about the castle's past, such as its period as the residence of the Avignon pope in the 15th century. Located at the highest point in the city, the castle offers stunning views of Peñiscola and the coast. However, this does mean that there is steep walk up. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes and bring water with you. Find out how to plan Peniscola trip without stress by asking Inspirock to help create an itinerary.

A beautiful place to visit. Lovely to wander up through the whitewashed streets, looking at the shops, and then up to the castle itself. Very impressive, plenty of signage in English if you want to learn about the history of the place. Fabulous views from the top - particularly wonderful at sunset
A beautiful castle in a stunning location. The approach to the castle is amazing with traditional restaurants and gift shops set amongst the beautiful buildings that surround the castle. The views from the top of are amazing, and inside the castle there are many exhibitions with information about the past of the historic building. This is a must see for anyone visiting Peñíscola, and the admission is very reasonable whether visiting by yourself or with family.
This worth visiting. It is a tourist destination for sure. The beaches are packed! The castle has awesome views. The old town up in the castle area is cute, although some areas are steep and slippery. July it’s just extremely hot and humid. Read up on the castle. I read somewhere that game of thrones was filmed here.
The Peniscola Castle is a beautiful place with a lot of history you can visit as a tourist. The castle is well accessible by foot from the bottom and you can get very close to it by car. There are a lot of tapas restaurants and tourist shops in the castle. There is both a beautiful sunrise and sunset.
Amazing Castle! Amazing view from the top. Great for a day trip. In my opinion a bit expensive (5€) for the value of exhibition available.
