  • Pego-Oliva Marshland, a big biodiversity space Between the province of Alicante Valencia, there is a big area of 1290 hectares that is called the Pego Oliva Marshland Natural Park, the best quality wetland of the coast, which represents one of the biggest biodiversity places in the Spanish Mediterranean. Not only because of its geographic location ( between the alluvial cones of the Gallinera River and the Girona River and framed by the Mostalla, Migdia and Segaria Mountain Ranges, forming an opened space, in the shape of a horseshoe, spreading as far as the sea), but also the right balance between the traditional rice farming and the respect for the environment. In this geographic location, there are all the ecosystems that are characteristic in the Mediterranean coast sedimentation: a very well preserved coast, despite the level of urbanization; brackish waters with a very specific flora, the humidity – especially dedicated to rice farming, crossed by irrigation canals and watered by the Bullent- Vedat river and the Racons Molinell river – and citric farming. Having the mountains close by, guarantees the existence of innumerous animals and plants. The Pego-Oliva Marshland is one of the oldest lagoons that has reached the highest level of silting. Since old times, hunting and fishing had a very big importance. Later, rice cultivation was added. In this area there were a lot of types that were produced, as the Bombón and the Pegolí, and there are other types that are cultivated and very well appreciated, as the bomba rice. Nowadays they do some ecologic experimental farming, and they have already seventeen types of rice. Before or after you visit this prominent natural area – that has several types of protection – we suggest you visit the Pego Ethnological Museum, where the population, touched by their natural heritage and the traditional agricultural activities, made sure to preserve everything that has a connection with farming and the rice commercialization. In the museum you can see more traditional professions, as the orange farming.
  • There really isn't a great deal to see here, if you like to walk in the hot sun with little shade then there are loads of trails through the country side.
  • Nice nature site. Panoramic viewpoints.
  • wonderful natural park!! Great that we are preserving it!
