San Nicolás is a historical church in Pamplona, Spain. It was built in the 12th century not only with religious functions, but also as a defensive bastion of the quarter during the strife with the neighbouring ones of St. Saturnino and Navarrería. The military role is evident in the watch tower. In 1222 the original Romanesque church was destroyed by a fire, and was replaced by a new building, consecrated in 1231.The interior is in Gothic style, from different phases. • The fortified church of St. Nicholas, from the 12th century, was the main religious building in the village of San Nicolas. Its main mission consisted in defending the village against the neighbors, hence its thick walls and gates and three towers of surveillance, of which only one, reformed in 1924, is preserved. Today is one of the landmarks of the old town of Pamplona, and presides over an area of great commercial activity during the day and lively nightlife.

  • It is curious that the informative legend at the bottom of the door of the Church is that, fortunately, you report what you can not see. A church with a good Gothic, and good Baroque altarpieces, with a clean apse, which acquires its beauty probably therefore, and with a Baroque organ fantasy, as well as a fortress Tower... all this is hidden in sight by a real belt of terraced buildings probably intended for greater enjoyment of your beneficiaries. However, and precisely for this reason, you should visit the interior, because it is completely hidden. It seems to me that we must criticize these mistakes, because otherwise they acquire citizenship card.
