4.5/5 based on 550+ reviews on the web
Originally constructed in 1571 and improved constantly throughout the following centuries, Fortress and Walls of Pamplona is one of the finest examples of European military architecture in existence. This fortification saw pitched battles from its construction all the way through the Spanish Civil War. The citadel’s impressive fortifications were designed in the style of a star fort. Wander the grounds of the fortress, relax in its shaded parks, climb to elevated sections of the walls for a great view of the city, and visit the art and history exhibits housed within. Be aware that atop many of the citadel walls there are no guardrails, so families with young children should take extra care while exploring. • Really beautiful views including a park. Lovely way to spend a reasonably easy afternoon walk on a dry day.
  • A park that houses the city walls built after the conquest and where we see the bulwarks of defence.

  • We got a free booklet from the Tourist Information Office of self-guided walks in Pamplona and one was around the walls. It was really interesting and there were good views from the walls.
