Museo Historico Militar de San Carlos, Palma de Mallorca

Specialty Museum · Hidden Gem · Museum
Frozen in time centuries ago, Museo Historico Militar de San Carlos originally protected Palma de Mallorca against enemy attacks from the sea. The museum housed inside the sandstone castle preserves artifacts from the island's rich military past, including parade uniforms, weapons, and helmets. In the 20th century, the castle served as a military hospital and prison. Today, a walk around the well-maintained fortification transports visitors to a time when pirates regularly attacked and ransacked the island. The castle offers sweeping views of the city and the surrounding area, so don't forget to bring your camera. Using our custom trip planner, Palma de Mallorca attractions like Museo Historico Militar de San Carlos can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • Nice but not wheelchair accesible as announced on website.
  • Brilliant museum with great exhibits but almost no English signs make it far less good then it could be
  • Beautiful sights! Great museum with weapons, uniforms and so many articles from the Spanish army
  • The museum is free and have so much things! The expositions are from the first settlers in Balearic Islands to the modern ages. The information you can see here tells you a lot about the local history. The collection of weapons they have in there I find really impressive. I was also surprised to see a gas mask for a baby, I've never seen that before. The view of the military harbor is so nice, you can see that the lighthouse in there is one of the oldest on earth (3rd) still working and that's pretty amazing. Also you have a cafeteria with an amazing view! Worth the visit 100%
  • This place is great! It was July 18 but there was hardly anyone there. It doesn't seem to be on the tourist route, but it should be! The museum is excellent, and the main harbour and coastal views are spectacular. There is a lovely little bar with twisted old trees for shade and great views. The donkeys were cute too.
