Catedral de Mallorca, Palma de Mallorca

Standing proudly in the middle of the city, Catedral de Mallorca is a Gothic building with sandstone walls and flying buttresses that seemingly rise right out of the sea. Dominating over its surroundings, the building is 121 m (397 ft) long and 55 m (180 ft) wide and was constructed on a massive scale. Designed in the Catalan Gothic style, with numerous Northern European elements, the cathedral was begun in 1229 on the site of a pre-existing mosque, but finished only in 1601. Famed architect Antoni Gaudí participated in a renovation project at the beginning of the 20th century. Managing to complete only a few of his grand ideas, Gaudí quarreled with the contractors, then suddenly abandoned the project. Nevertheless, this vast cathedral remains a major architectural landmark well worth visiting. • You have to visit the cathedral in Palma if you are here. It is very old and you go through tiny streets in old town to get to it  more »

  • Lovely cathedral. Worth visiting inside. We didn't buy tickets online, just waited at the door and purchased them. Went on a Tuesday at 1pm and the line was only a couple minutes long. €8 pp. There's a free toilet inside as well. If you drive there's a parking garage off the highway next to the water. You exit right by the fountain and then can walk up to the cathedral and take in the view. There's a lot of tourist trap stuff there but no one in your face. The view on the way up is worth it and it's not much of a climb. We ended walking around the center after so overall about 3 hours of parking cost about €7.30. There's a machine you have to pay before you get to your car so take your ticket with you.
  • So big and beautiful! Get the audio guide if you want a more comprehensive tour. It was only an hour long. The outside was amazing! And some interesting artistic choices inside. There's a modern piece inside this centuries old church that makes you look twice and applaud the forward thinkers. And the Gaudí altar piece.. wow
  • Beautiful cathedral right off of the water. We didn’t have an opportunity to go inside because we had to get back to the airport. From the outside, it looked stunning. There were a good bit of street merchants outside which is to be expected. The cathedral’s beauty is on par with the rest of Palma proper. It’s a stunning city with high end finishes and opportunities to have great food and purchase top level products. Highly recommend.
  • Beautiful Church. One of principal Landmarks of Majorca. Must see when in the Island. Don’t miss the historical buildings and beautiful historical gardens around it with fountains and a lot of green. Highly recommended!
  • What an amazing place! During my visit the interior of the cathedral was closed off (afterhours) but I have heard that it is spectacular with amazing architecture. This is definitely reflected from the outside, it's so amazing. It was especially beautiful during the sunset! Definitely worth the trip.
