Banys Arabs (Arab Baths), Palma de Mallorca

2.5
#5 of 9 in Historic Sites in Palma de Mallorca
A unique piece of history is waiting at Banys Arabs (Arab Baths). Check out these baths dated from the 10th century, and they’re virtually all that remain of the Arab city of Medina Mayurqa. Historians believe the baths were once part of a nobleman’s house. The structure is a dome with interior columns and round windows. If you take a close look at the columns, you’ll notice each of them are different in size. Outside, enjoy a moment of peace in the secluded garden. You can even have a picnic lunch here if you bring food and drink. Remains of an Arab bath before the reconquista. In a small garden very fresh to rest. The cost is low, if you pass by there worth it. If you are interested in archaeology Park Arabian treasure.

Cute, poorly maintained but useful to imagine a past with other cultures that otherwise is not perceived in the city! Worth a stop and at the bottom the price is justified.

The architecture of the site is well preserved. It's too bad that there are only few pieces. The outdoor gardens are a place of welcome rest away from the crowds of the historic center

  • Very small place, only a couple of rooms to look at and a very short video to watch. But they do have a lovely garden to sit in and forget you are in the city for an hour or so
  • There is not much left of the old bath. But it is a beautiful place in the vivid city, we spent some time in the garden enjoying the calm atmosphere.
  • Small place, althought there is not do much to see, you can take a seat nad relax on garden. Worth it :)
  • An interesting historic attraction and a beautiful little oasis away from the city traffic.
  • Lovey, interesting place with a cool, tranquil garden. Only small, won't take more than 15 minutes to see it, but worth it nonetheless, and you can linger longer in that garden.

Where to stay in Palma de Mallorca

To experience the heart of Palma, opt to stay in the the inner ring of La Avinguadas street, where lies the historical city center. The mostly traffic-free district is filled with beautiful island architecture housing boutique hotels, historical restaurants, and lovely plazas, and is only a short walk from the city beach and port. The Santa Catalina neighborhood is another popular option for accommodation as it is well known for its restaurants, daily market, and close proximity to the city's main sites. Just east of the city center is Portixol, a beachside neighborhood that still retains its charm of an old fishing village. For a small town beach atmosphere, stay along Platja de Palma, the beach stretching east of the city center.
