The Sierra de Gredos is a mountain range in central Spain that spans the provinces of Ávila, Salamanca, Cáceres, Madrid, and Toledo. It is part of the much larger Central System of mountain ranges. Its highest point is Pico Almanzor, at 2,592 metres and it has been declared a natural park by the Autonomous Community of Castile and León. The Sierra de Gredos is one of the most extensive mountain ranges of the Central System; it comprises five river valleys: the Alto Tormes, the Alto Alberche, the Tiétar Oriental, the Tiétar Occidental y la Vera, and the Valle del Ambroz. The first known inhabitants were the Vettones, a pre-Roman Celtic people. The central part of the range encomprises the Sierra de Gredos Regional Park.GeologyThe Sierra de Gredos comprises mainly granite, which is a common type of intrusive, felsic, igneous rock which is granular and phaneritic in texture. This rock consists mainly of quartz, mica, and feldspar. In some Gredos rocks the feldspar crystals are especially large, attaining a size of several centimeters in some cases. There is also some granodiorite and outcrops of metamorphic rocks.

  • Certainly a spectacular route to enjoy nature with stunning views even in summer that everything is drier and less showy. I've uploaded from the platform to the large lagoon on 3 occasions, but the latter have been very disappointed, has become the route in a "road/track paved" very difficult, huge stones and evil place that hinder the route and it is likely to suffer a foot injury. In addition, it increases travel time, since you have to be more careful and looking down to see where to step, which does not enjoy this spectacular landscape. It is so impassable that visitors are making a trail or trail off the paved path that allows them to walk with ease.

  • Teenager I've gone much by the sierra de gredos mountains with my friends and, although for some years that wouldn't, the characteristic smell of the mountain, wild life, such a fantastic night sky (of the few places in Spain with that quality of heaven), they make always a fantastic experience return to walk by his ways.

  • We went a couple d adults and a child of 7 years.2, € 50 to enter, the incredible landscape, the animal:cabra, cows, horses and some offspring of wild boars (latter already at 21:00 in the evening), that fresh water sources you give life and eat a good sandwich on the lawn of the lagoon upon arrival is the milk Despite being August and little water this year with us, you see pretty green. In the morning there was something more than people, but in the afternoon at the turn, practically alone. Bring cream, there are no shadows on the road, to my neck look down now I hurt that the ground is paved most and you have to look at all the time you not twisting the foot and we ended up at the end with your knees slightly popped from the road. To spend night in refuge should book by internet:refugio elola.
