Cathedral de Santa Maria, Murcia

(4.7/5 based on 1,100+ reviews on the web)
You can merely stare at the ornate facade of the mixed Baroque and Gothic Cathedral de Santa Maria and come away feeling satisfied. But inside the 14th-century cathedral sit three intricately detailed chapels, which are not to be missed. Of these, the Chapel of Junterones owns a reputation as one of the Spanish Renaissance's finest. Head up the iconic 90-m (300-ft) bell tower, where some 25 bells toll. Beneath the main altar lies the heart and entrails of Alfonso X, the medieval king of Castile, León and Galicia. With our custom trip planner, Murcia attractions like Cathedral de Santa Maria can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • Site worth visiting with very beautiful Cathedral and typical historic quarter in the history of vcette beautiful city
    View original
  • It is located in the heart of the city, wrapped in pedestrian access and an impressive square surrounded by small shops and bars. Participate together to it you can also see the Episcopal Palace and very close, you can visit very ancient streets with the names of the offices that were performed at the time (silverware, rags...) and a spectacular casino in different styles, which include the Mudéjar. The facade of the Cathedral is of Baroque style and it is worth stopping to look at all the rich details that have; unique style, I have not seen any so spectacular and beautiful design. Its Tower think that it is the second highest in Spain after the Giralda and visits to raise it; It goes through a few ramps and from the campnario there are views of the city and the River very interesting and beautiful (I think that in the summer there are night tours also). The interior of the Cathedral appalled by the change of style; If it is Baroque, the interior is Gothic, tall ribbed arches that give a feeling of greatness and very persistent peace. There are very beautiful chapels, which highlights one of Renaissance style, I think, that is known as Capilla de los Vélez, of spectacular beauty from its base to its ceiling, if you if you on a bench inside, know what I'm talking about. By its rear part, abroad, the Chapel is surrounded by a chain of stone, which it is said, is made of one piece. The altarpiece of the main nave is worthy of enjoy watching it; I must confess that her beauty, looked perplexed while ago sounded the organ of the cloister with a Baroque tune, which bristled me hairs and I transported to another era. It is worth visiting the Museum, where they are works of art and architecture from several periods and some Arab excavations that are below you that they'll walk on a glass. I recommend a general visit and stop to look at it all in detail, it is worth. I leave many things that I know or remember, but surely that anyone visiting it will appreciate everything.
