Whenever a friend comes and not yet known Murcia, I like to stroll through the streets where once stood the Arab wall and see some stretches that dot the heart of Murcia. The Region, due to its Mediterranean situation has witnessed the passage of numerous cultures and civilizations, Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans, Visigoths, Byzantines and Muslims. Murcia received of the latter name, distribution and the development of the city since the 9th century until its reconquest in the 13th, becoming one of the most powerful South ramparts. With 15 meters of height, 95 defensive towers and 9 gates to the city. The city grew up around the main mosque where the Cathedral is located. Due to the re-conquest occurred a process of urban reorganization, replacing mosques by churches, destroying small streets and minor buildings that formed the traditional plot. The streets were distributed by unions even though the name of the professional activity of yesteryear are still preserved as jabonerias, platería and trapería. With the passage of time the remains of the wall were considered to be of little relevance and it caused that they were doomed to be destroyed or remain hidden in garages and basements of buildings. So travel that I do with my acquaintances is the following: visit the Museum of the walls of Santa Eulalia, where the remains of one of the gates of the city are preserved, continue by Cánovas del Castillo Street and enter the wall cafe bar (preferably in the afternoon because in the morning it is closed) downstairs in the bar you can see the well preserved this part of the wall that is its magnitude and its size. Follow direction to the Cathedral, by the place of the Apostles, in the underground parking of the roundabout, the garden of the City Hall, down the stairs that are closer to the gran Vía, nothing more down to the parking one of the walls of the wall can be seen. Continue the tour to the Palace of Almudí, inside which are also preserved remnants of the wall, visit the restored walls outdoor Veronicas, keep walking by the side of the market to the plaza de San Julián and the street of the pillar. Here you will find the Church of the pillar, built on one of the walls of another door in the wall, called the glazed door and which was destroyed in 1863. Continue walking along the street sagasta, where a few meters to the right, you can see the contramuro of the wall remains. In the basements of some of the buildings of this street still in good condition the walls although they can not be visited. Continue the street sagasta Street Santa Teresa and street Luis Braille to visit the Palace of San Esteban and the remains of Islamic urban layout that appeared in 2009 when he started the construction of an underground car park and is the same thanks to citizen mobilization interrupted. And so far my guided tour of the Arab wall. Now... I recommend a cool beer in the garden of the gunpowder plot.

Throughout the city of Murcia, both outdoors and in the basements of parking lots, bars, restaurants, or particular properties remains of the wall that once encircled the entire city (that has been characterized throughout history in demolishing every trace of the past be passing). As well, the walled gates giving to the plaza de Santa Eulalia a day, 750 years ago, entered the King Alfonso X to take the city from the Moors hand. And what a day was outdoor trash and home to families of cats is today a beautiful and free mini Museum where apart from to be able to see the restored part of the wall remains and Arab door we can learn about our past with texts, images, videos and objects from the time of the wall (only objects eye).

Since its origin the project was wrong. Not seen anything of what was. The authorities, as on many occasions, did what had to be, to make decisions, and give the importance that has. A disaster... and a penalty.
