Montserrat-Aeri, Monistrol de Montserrat

Must see · Landmark · Tourist Spot
The Aeri de Montserrat (Catalan pronunciation: [əˈɛɾi ðə munsəˈrat]) is an aerial cable car which provides one of the means of access to the Montserrat mountain and abbey. It can be found 1 hour from the city of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain.

Travelers using the cable car should take note of its operating hours to avoid being stranded on the mountain, as it is operated by a separate company than the rack railroad and funiculars, and is not coordinated with them.

The line runs from the monastery to the station of Montserrat-Aeri, on the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) line from Barcelona-Plaça d'Espanya station to Manresa. The FGC operates the Montserrat Rack Railway, which provides an alternative access to the mountain and abbey, and two funicular railways on the mountain, the Funicular de Sant Joan and the Funicular de Santa Cova.

  • If you haven't got the height phobia, then I wouldn't be able to think of a better way to go up to Montserrat rather than to travel by the Aeri cable car. The cable ride only takes 5 minutes to climb....  more »

  • This was such a unique travel experience to go see the village, monastery and mountains of Montserrat! We wanted to see some nature and the cable cars are a thrilling way of getting up there. The view you get from the little cars is amazing but can also be a little chilling, because it goes up very high. On your way down they seem to go a little faster but that makes for a fun ride too. All in all I think this is a great and unique way to go up and explore Montserrat, enjoy it to the fullest.
  • Amazing experience. Must see if you are in Barcelona. Just 45 min drive from the city. You can also walk the paths up the mountain after you take the cable car up. Even more amazing views all the way up. About a 2 hour hike if you feel like it
  • Easy access to Montserrat. If you're feeling energetic, you can park here and hike up! It's a lovely (but somewhat strenuous) hike. Taking the funicular is a quick trip up and down and offers great views along the way.
  • Everyone should take a cable car at least once. Amazing views any direction. We buy tickets on arrival, but still didn't wait for too long in a queue - around 20 minutes
  • Great ride, we got in it just for fun and the experience. The gentleman piloting it told us two very funny true stories about his experiences operating it. The rest of the crew are explendid people. We enjoyed it vey much.
