Miravet Castle (Castillo de Miravet), Miravet

Standing imposingly on a rocky hill 100 m (330 ft) above the river below, Miravet Castle (Castillo de Miravet) provides one of the finest remaining examples of medieval military architecture in Spain. Admire the castle’s parapets and massive walls, originally constructed by Spain’s Muslim rulers during the ninth century, which offer sweeping views of the surrounding countryside. The castle today bears Romanesque modifications added after its European conquest in 1153. Explore the fortress’ labyrinth of rooms, 15 of which surround its inner courtyard, including a granary, church, and stable. Guided tours of the castle grounds are available, and free parking is on offer at the base of the hill. The road up to the entrance is very steep, and therefore it is recommended that those with mobility issues use motorized transportation to reach the top. • Worth seeing and great views, the castle is an amazing piece of history with hints of being one of the templars location, I took the steps to the terrace, very narrow steps but well worth it.  more »
  • Some efforts to get to the castle on foot but it's worth a booklet for the explanations in french and especially the views! Not to be missed!

  • Worth visiting and paying for. Try to get there in time for one of the tours as it will make your visit much more enjoyable. Great views.
  • Very pretty templars castle, you should take the guided tour. Also the views are spectacular and the village itself very quaint and lovely.
  • An amazing place to visit. A little exposed so if its dark, or overcast be sure to take a coat. But if you love history you'll love this place!
  • Interesting templar castle. Good views over the Ebre and in remarkable condition since it was a battleground in the Spanish Civil War. Drive up or down could be interesting if someone is coming the other way!
