Miravet Castle (Castillo de Miravet), Miravet

Must see · Castle · Historic Site
Standing imposingly on a rocky hill 100 m (330 ft) above the river below, Miravet Castle (Castillo de Miravet) provides one of the finest remaining examples of medieval military architecture in Spain. Admire the castle’s parapets and massive walls, originally constructed by Spain’s Muslim rulers during the ninth century, which offer sweeping views of the surrounding countryside. The castle today bears Romanesque modifications added after its European conquest in 1153. Explore the fortress’ labyrinth of rooms, 15 of which surround its inner courtyard, including a granary, church, and stable. Guided tours of the castle grounds are available, and free parking is on offer at the base of the hill. The road up to the entrance is very steep, and therefore it is recommended that those with mobility issues use motorized transportation to reach the top. • The first Castle in Tarragona, Catalonia by 11th Century. Very interesting historical medieval castle. Appropriate by the whole family. Wholesome panoramic view of the Ebro River( Río Ebro...  more »
  • It's a nice visit but you must avoid the central hours of the day. Too hot and not so much shadows to get fresh air.  more »
  • A visit to this castle will impress you, for it's historic value and beautiful views. Take the boat to get you on the other side of the river.  more »
  • Beautiful village on the river ebro. Had a lovely morning strolling around finishing with a coffee overlooking this amazing river. Castle is lovely. I hear there is a lovely pottery shop here but I missed it!!
  • Lovely castle on a hill by the river Ebro. Couple of bars, great ceramics shop just outside town and two good restaurants. Interesting walk up through the town to the castle with great views of the winding river below.
  • Had a wonderful time at Miravet Castle, although it was raining heavily the surroundings were interesting enough to take the mind off of the weather. Lots of original features with lots of information panels in various languages including English.
  • Beautifull place to visit and it gives a nice view of the Ebro and the surrounding valley. The tour is quite short, and there was a lot of construction to the castle going on. Keep an eye on your (small-) childer here, some parts have a deep drop and low fences.....
  • Very nice! Worth the trip! Use proper shoes when going up, since it's not a proper path. There's an old man selling very good cherries too 👌
