Miravet Castle (Castillo de Miravet), Miravet

(4.3/5 based on 300+ reviews on the web)
Standing imposingly on a rocky hill 100 m (330 ft) above the river below, Miravet Castle (Castillo de Miravet) provides one of the finest remaining examples of medieval military architecture in Spain. Admire the castle’s parapets and massive walls, originally constructed by Spain’s Muslim rulers during the ninth century, which offer sweeping views of the surrounding countryside. The castle today bears Romanesque modifications added after its European conquest in 1153. Explore the fortress’ labyrinth of rooms, 15 of which surround its inner courtyard, including a granary, church, and stable. Guided tours of the castle grounds are available, and free parking is on offer at the base of the hill. The road up to the entrance is very steep, and therefore it is recommended that those with mobility issues use motorized transportation to reach the top. Arrange to visit Miravet Castle (Castillo de Miravet) and other attractions in Miravet using our Miravet family vacation planner.

  • Very beautiful castle. It was wonderful to find the way to the Castle. There we went with a ferry without motor on the Ebro. At the Castle, you have a wonderful view over the countryside. Worth a visit.

  • The region is full of hilltop castles; this one is a little unusual for its origins in the Knights Templar movement. It was closed when we visited, but the outside is very handsome and inviting for a ...  more »
  • An impressive fortress next to the Ebro. An excellent history lesson. We must make the guided tour that tells you very well from all the historic moments of the Castle. Stunning views. The visit can be completed with the ferry and visit the river crossing to the village. A fantastic day

  • An amazing place to visit. A little exposed so if its dark, or overcast be sure to take a coat. But if you love history you'll love this place!
  • Interesting templar castle. Good views over the Ebre and in remarkable condition since it was a battleground in the Spanish Civil War. Drive up or down could be interesting if someone is coming the other way!
  • Lovely drive and scenic spot. Had done a lot of castles over our 1,100 Spanish road trip and found this had best information and one of the nicest outlooks.
  • Amazing castle with amazing views. There was a lack of guidance tho.
  • Fun place to visit. Take one of the local guides they are worth the money.
