Roman Bridge, Merida

4.7
Experience a piece of history at Roman Bridge, the longest surviving bridge from ancient times, which crosses the Guadiana River. The architecture of the bridge is a highlight for visitors, featuring sixty half-moon arches. You can cross the bridge on foot to the park on the other side, and visit the Alcazaba of Mérida, a Moorish fortification. This site is particularly beautiful at sunrise or sunset. • This is a bridge that was built during the Roman Empire, very strong and widely used by the people of the peninsula to make the silver route. Is a very good state of conservation. Beautiful

  • World's longest antique Roman Bridge actually. In use for pedestrians only. In the middle there is an island when people go to walk, run, cycle or just relax. Good views of river Guadiana and riverside trails.
  • Well maintained bridge from Romans still in use on foot or bike. In the middle there is an island with a nice garden for a walk or run.
  • ATTENTION!!! Don't go alone on this bridge! You risk to be attacked by strange Spanish guys if they see you are alone, even in the middle of the day! It happened to me about 3pm on this bridge! It's very dangerous place indeed! Take care!
  • Great place for a stroll and to take in the mellenia of history.
  • Who can say anything bad about a Roman bridge that is so well maintained. Walking through this town is like walking through Roman history.
