Palmitos Park, Maspalomas

4.3
#2 of 7 in Zoos & Aquariums in Canary Islands
Packed with exotic plants and animals, Palmitos Park is a 20 hectare (49 acre) botanic garden and aviary located just a short drive from the island’s popular beaches. The big appeal of this park is its great wealth of cacti and succulents, with over 160 different cactus types and nearly 1,000 palm trees of 42 varieties. The park houses over 1,500 exotic birds, representing about 230 different species. Hummingbirds, swans, ducks, parrots, crocodiles, and monkeys may be the park’s most popular residents, but you can also choose to visit the aquarium, noted for its large fish and coral displays and daily dolphin shows. This park is also home to Europe’s biggest butterfly house. As you near the exit, visit the park’s souvenir shop. • - considering this island isn't much bigger than Jersey, I was impressed by the range of animals and shows put on. - the dolphin show is definitely a crowd pleaser for those with young children - they...  more »
  • Palmitos Park is very beautiful! We were there approximately 10 - 14 and that was perfect for all performances of the Tiere.Wir had to wait no longer than half an hour on the demonstrations. The price is quite in order, since the Park seems very clean and tidy. I can only recommend it

  • Fabulous place to visit! Set in the hills, lots if up hill walking but pavements are made so no problem if disabled etc. Having the chance to go and meet the dolphins was the best thing ever... would highly recommend it to anyone thinking of doing it. A really good day out for all the family.
  • Excellent bird park/ zoo with free flying bird displays, set at the end of a beautiful canyon. Marred by the addition (since my last visit) of dolphin shows, something I'm not fond of. That said, their "tank" was enormous, plenty of room for the pod, & they appeared in good shape. That aside, the park is beautifully landscaped & you can spend a good few hours there. Good parking & facilities.
  • If you love birds, this is the place to go. Walking shoes and sun protection highly recommended. Go early as the the timing between the walking and shows will be perfect and you'll be out having seen everything. If you go later, you'll have to retrace your steps to make the shows.
  • A wonderful place with a focus on various birds - from parrots, cockatoos, flamingos and peacocks to bird of prey like American bald headed eagle. They have daily shows with the parrots/cockatoos, which is a lot of fun for the kids. For adults I would recommend the bird of prey show, where they take out the 'big birds' for some free airtime and a feeding.
  • At the entrance, they asked for documentation (like password) as proof that my son was 10 years old, so he could get in with children ticket. I didn't have some documentation with me, so after a short discussion I had to buy a adult ticket for my child. In other places in other countries they usually let the children in, if they are in the grey zone, and they doesn't ask for documentation. Back at home, I checked the homepage, not a warning about bring documentation if the child is close to 10 years old. In my option, it cost the first half star. The other half star was lost when the food was typical tourism / fast food friendly and had a neutral (flat) taste. Not bad, but also not good - for a restaurant. The last star, because there wasn't something extraordinary at the attraction, so 4 stars minus the one for entrance and restaurant food quality. However the good things also has to be mentioned: The animal shows were great to view - parrot, birds of prey, dolphins shows were all great, and every show lasted about 25 minutes, not to short or to long. It's possible to feed emu and fish, for few euros (remember coins for buying the food to the animals). The area, we moved from bottom where there was shadow and a little cold, to the top with sun and warmer temperature. Good parking facilities and the possibly to go with bus. I would recommend this to families with children and other who are interested in animals.
