Palmitos Park, Maspalomas

4.3
#2 of 8 in Zoos & Aquariums in Canary Islands
Packed with exotic plants and animals, Palmitos Park is a 20 hectare (49 acre) botanic garden and aviary located just a short drive from the island’s popular beaches. The big appeal of this park is its great wealth of cacti and succulents, with over 160 different cactus types and nearly 1,000 palm trees of 42 varieties. The park houses over 1,500 exotic birds, representing about 230 different species. Hummingbirds, swans, ducks, parrots, crocodiles, and monkeys may be the park’s most popular residents, but you can also choose to visit the aquarium, noted for its large fish and coral displays and daily dolphin shows. This park is also home to Europe’s biggest butterfly house. As you near the exit, visit the park’s souvenir shop. • I went to Palmitos Park with my family was intrigued by Europe's largest Butterfly House! That disappointment will be big but with four butterflies placed in cross ... a red herring! As well as the Orchid House ... I could do it myself!! In fact I would have been better. The monkeys are in a tiny cage forced to make the same journey for eternity! I did not give zero thanks to dolphin did well and which reveals lots of love on the part of trainers as well as that of the parrots.

  • Pros Good park / zoo all animals, fish, birds healthy entertaining easy to view. Parrot show and dolphin show excellent. Cons Like anywhere that serves tourists once you are there they will separate you from as much money as they can and take advantage of the fact you are on holiday. Examples: - during the dolphin show the announcements to take photos with dolphins is constant there are different charges for different poses €30 each per individual person (no family or group shots) - I suppose you have to expect usual markup on food drink. The ice cream (3 times hotel cost) , but what do really annoy me was €3.5 for a small bottle of water (approx 7 times normal cost. Advise You can picnic in places fortunately we took sandwiches. TAKE PLENTY OF YOUR OWN DRINKS If you have a child who is 10years old or less who is tall for their age (they will measure them) if they are above 1.40 meters they will charge you Adult price unless you have a passport to prove they are 10 or younger. In our case they added €8.
  • Once inside, be prepared to walk. Some steep hills to navigate. The dolphin show is quite impressive. Never had time to see the birds of prey show. Worth a visit. If you plan to go to the water park too, buy a 2 park ticket online to make a small saving.
  • Palmitos Park is a really good day out with your children. Great place to walk and see the animals. It’s a very well maintained park. It’s quite pricey so I would recommend you to take your food and drinks with you.
  • Although very expensive to get in or to eat, we had a wonderful time at this park , set high up in the mountains. There are not many places you get to see beautiful birds of prey up close and then watch as they soar into the mountains. Absolutely spectacular. The Dolphin show was also amazing and mesmerising, loved it.
  • Great shows. Great surroundings! Really Good food (tried the Margarita pizza and BBQ 285g Burger). I choose not to post pics from the shows.
