Dating from the 16th century, Iglesia Mayor de la Encarnacion is a church with ornate gold and silver decorations. Artists Pedro del Castillo and Salvador Galvez designed the main façade. Highlights of the church include the high altar, which is decorated completely in gold. Also check out the pipe organ, as it’s considered an important musical instrument in Spain. This church is located in the old town of Marbella. You can access it easily, either by a small lane from the sea either by a magnificent square lined with a few restaurants ' where you can admire this magnificent Church. The architecture is relatively simple and sober, inside you'll discover a few paintings, a magnificent heart of gilding that contrast with the white walls. A church worth visiting if you visit the old town.

  • Nice church if you are into this sort of stuff.
  • A huge neoclassical church looms over the white houses of Olvera which is yet another town that enjoys a spectacular setting. The Iglesia de la Encarnación has two bell towers and was built on the ruins of a mosque. Next-door is the 12th-century Almohad castle that formed part the defensive network of the Nasrid kingdom. Alfonso XI conquered the town in 1327.
  • One of the buildings most emblematic of Marbella. Beautiful church where there are them. Place for people who believe.

Where to stay in Marbella

While Marbella is traditionally known for its expansive resorts and hotels along the shores of the Costa del Sol, the old city center provides top accommodation for those seeking a more authentic Andalusian experience. A lovely mixture of white-washed buildings, charming plazas, and numerous options for dining and shopping, the old center is located within walking distance of the city's Paseo Maritimo, a tree-lined waterfront promenade leading down to the famous Puerto Banus.
