This pretty fountain is remarkable mainly for its beautiful mosaics in ceramic Recalling the various places of Spain. Its type is Andalusian and recalls the Moorish influence. Incidentally it allows to be refresh (not drinking), which isn't a luxury summer.

  • . A taste of Old marbella! With so much of Marbella going downhill (The Old Town, the Avenida Ricardo Soriano), it's nice to see a remnant of the past that is still going strong! It is sited in the Alameda Park - check out the reviews - which is itself unique along the Costa del Sol - other towns were too impoverished to have an Alameda like this with its ceramic benches (aren't they lovely!) and its centrepiece ceramic fountain. This is a beautifully decorated fountain. Walk around it and read the inscriptions on the ceramic plaques. You'll see that the fountain has its name proudly set out - the Fuente de la Virgen del Rocio, named in honour of one of Andalusia's most beloved Virgins. But what are all the other placenames set around the fountain? There are regular pilgrimages to the El Rocio shrine in the marshlands south of Seville, at Whitsun. The names you see here are of some of the towns where they have Brotherhoods (Hermandades) in her honour, who meet up with the Marbella Hermandad del Rocio to form an over-growing procession along the route to El Rocio. On summer evenings there are sometimes concerts or other cultural events here in the park. When there is music, they often make the fountains play up and down in time to the music, with coloured lights. A lovely place to sit and ponder after walking around the Old Town. .
  • Beautiful fountain in the Centre of Marbella and in a spectacular setting.

Where to stay in Marbella

While Marbella is traditionally known for its expansive resorts and hotels along the shores of the Costa del Sol, the old city center provides top accommodation for those seeking a more authentic Andalusian experience. A lovely mixture of white-washed buildings, charming plazas, and numerous options for dining and shopping, the old center is located within walking distance of the city's Paseo Maritimo, a tree-lined waterfront promenade leading down to the famous Puerto Banus.
