  • Funerary monument in the merced square, is an obelisk I recommend the visit and also in the plaza there are bars to drink and enjoy the views

  • The monument is located in the center of the Plaza de la Merced (formerly known as Plaza de watering). It was designed by the architect Rafael Mitjana in honor to General Torrijos and his 48 comrades, shot on the beach of San Andrés by order of Fernando VII. The crypt (where are the remains of Torrijos and his companions) is located on the base (or pedestal). The monument consists of two bodies; the first, with dedications, and the second, with the names of the deceased. These bodies there is an obelisk, decorated with laurel Wreaths made of bronze. The upper block of the monument is slightly displaced by the earthquake suffered Malaga in 1884. Although the monument was restored, it was decided not to change this, since the earthquake and its consequences are part of the history of the city. I recommend see it to the walk by the square of the Merced.
