Art Museum Museum
Delve into 19th-century Spanish art at Museo Carmen Thyssen Málaga. Housed in a converted 16th-century Baroque palace, the museum features a permanent collection of works, from landscapes to portraits, done by predominantly Andalusian painters. For an interesting perspective on the development and culture of southern Spain, admire well-known pieces such as Plá’s “Ladies in the Garden” or “La Buenaventura” by Romero de Torres. Stop for a coffee and pastry at the museum’s palace cafe before leaving. • Not a patch on the Thyssen Bornemisza in Madrid, but then I didn't expect it to be. There are some good paintings, especially Zurbaran and de Torres, but rather too much Romantic work. However, it's w...  more »

  • If you enjoy museums this is a wonderful place to go. The exhibits were easy to see and understand. The building is nice as well. It is right off the Main Street so easy to find.  more »

  • This is a good sized museum in that it's not too big or small. Easy to stroll through and get your fill of art without getting bored. I especially enjoyed the impressionism floor.
  • This place is super clean and free on Sundays after 17:00. I won't pretend to know much of the Art here, but the layout if comfortable and pedestrian flow is limited at the entrance so no room is ever crowded. There is good supporting history and context for the art on walls of the exhibits english and spanish.
  • Interesting museum. We visited the permanent exhibition. It was 6 euro / ticket. It has some very nice paintings from different time periods. Most of them have a QR code next to them which you can scan with your smartphone. Very helpful, it gives a link which describes each painting.
  • At 1 minute walking from Plaza de Las Flores, in the heart of the town centre. Excellent Musseum. It is worth visiting!. Elegant, charming, enjoyable. Interesting to spend two hours, at least.
  • Excellent space, easy to navigate. Beautiful Spanish art - especially the scenes of daily life in pre-20th century Spain. Japanese art was a bonus. We didn't visit the American West temporary exhibition. Photography without flash permitted. Open air troof space. Great bookshop with many posters etc for sale.

Where to stay in Malaga

For a chance to experience the heart of the city center, you will want to stay in the area surrounding Calle Larios and Alameda Principal. This constitutes the commercial shopping district of the city and is a convenient walk to the city's main attractions and beaches. Another option is the historical city center, where an array of lively tapas bars and shops intermix with the dramatic Gothic architecture. For a true beach vacation, choose to stay in one of the hotels lining the city beach where you can soak up views of the beautiful Costa Dorada away from the hustle and bustle of the city center.
