Sobrino de Botín, Madrid

3.9
Sobrino de Botín, founded in 1725, holds the Guinness Record for world’s oldest restaurant. It boasts quite a pedigree: Francisco de Goya worked here as a waiter and it’s mentioned in an Ernest Hemingway novel. For a special dinner out, consider the roast suckling pig, or, if you’ve partied until the early morning as Madrid’s residents often do, try the traditional garlic soup with a poached egg. The menu is available in English, and busy evenings here are accompanied by live music. Use our Madrid trip planner to add Sobrino de Botín and other attractions to your Madrid vacation plans.

  • Recommended by relatives who had already been in Madrid, before leaving I booked a table to celebrate my 50 years. All very good. The proposals in the menu are not many, but all cooked very well. The menu of roast suckling pig, which is carried in the whole room and cut into several portions under the eyes of the customers, could turn up their noses at anybody. Since the website is proudly reported that this dish is the speciality of the House, who does not like is already notified and can decide whether to accept calmly what or stay home. I think it is preferable to the reservation.

  • Dine in the restaurant most old world is a must-see when visiting Madrid but if we add its exquisite food and the professional care of all who there work, turn this place into an unforgettable experience. The prices are reasonable and no reservation is needed. My congratulations to all the workers in particular who was my waiter that inadvertently do not write down your name

  • It's amazing to think you are seating in such an historic restaurant! The service is very good and the atmosphere as well. The house menu is very satisfying for one person and can be too much food. The price for the house menu is 45 euro. The food is good but not the greatest. I would definitely recommend the place!
  • I booked a table for 6 adults online 3 days prior, not a good time for dining(3:30 pm), it is popular though. We order white and red wine, some dishes, maybe 8, and the waiter suggested not to order anymore, he thought too much for us. Total 170 euro. They served the food guickly, I liked it, 'cause we were too hungry. I suggested must-eat in Madrid. Do not forget the basement seats.
  • Visited the 300+ yrs old famous restaurant when I was in town but mostly are tourists and crowded. The Restaurant is a three story building including the basement. We were eating in the basement and very unique atmosphere eating there. We ordered ordered Ibram Ham, grilled Pawns, suckling pig and of course, Sangria. Bread and water are charged as expected in Madrid everywhere. Food is okay, no complaint about service. Worth a visit if you have extra time in Madrid.
  • The heritage and history of this building is outstanding. Certainly worth a visit! We got their famous suckling pig and also the squid in ink. The pig didn't have much meat on the bone and and squid was very salty without much other taste. However the squid texture was perfect and the pig taste was a 4/5. We were quite torn on the rating as the building experience is a 5 but the food was a 3.
  • A wonderful and historic spot. We really had great service, the prices are typical, and the suckling pig was delicious. We did make a reservation in advance, and we where seated early. Would recommend this spot for its history, ambiance, and great meal.

Where to stay in Madrid

The Spanish capital is known for its array of distinct neighborhoods each with its own appeal. An affordable and easy-to-navigate metro system, which makes it is easy to get around Madrid gives you more flexibility in choosing where to stay. Perhaps the most popular choice is Puerta del Sol, the heart of the city center and one of the main tourist attractions with its numerous shops, affordable hotels, and restaurants. Close by is Gran Via street, one of the city's main arteries, which is also home to a number of hotels. A short walk from here is Plaza España where the city's most iconic landmarks lie, including the Royal Palace and the Teatro Royal. For somthing outside the traditional tourist areas, consider staying in La Latina or Malasaña, two bohemian neighborhoods that offer a wide range of eclectic shops, quaint cafes, and lively bars.
