Where to stay in Madrid

The Spanish capital is known for its array of distinct neighborhoods each with its own appeal. An affordable and easy-to-navigate metro system, which makes it is easy to get around Madrid gives you more flexibility in choosing where to stay. Perhaps the most popular choice is Puerta del Sol, the heart of the city center and one of the main tourist attractions with its numerous shops, affordable hotels, and restaurants. Close by is Gran Via street, one of the city's main arteries, which is also home to a number of hotels. A short walk from here is Plaza España where the city's most iconic landmarks lie, including the Royal Palace and the Teatro Royal. For somthing outside the traditional tourist areas, consider staying in La Latina or Malasaña, two bohemian neighborhoods that offer a wide range of eclectic shops, quaint cafes, and lively bars.

  • It seems that Madrid is continuous bustle, traffic, stress and noise, but wonder how after spending a few doors as of this church, all is silence, tranquility and peace.

  • The real Iglesia de Santiago stands in the heart of the historic centre of Madrid on the Plaza de Santiago in close proximity to the Royal Palace. Like all churches we visited during our stay, this is very well maintained and no doubt worth a visit. Due to the simple exterior we would have almost passed, are entered then but but short. The Interior is kept generally rather simple, but repeatedly and downright pompous highlights. We liked to be here.

  • Beautiful church dedicated to St. James. Wonderful artwork and one of the most uniquely shaped churches in the city.
  • A beauty. Give credentials for the camino de Santiago. Very cool, by the way.

  • Small church that is worth visiting. Picture of the Apostle James at the battle of Clavijo horse painted by Francisco Ricci in the high altar, the image of the blessed Mariana and some other works along the Church make it a place that is worth knowing.

  • Place of departure of the Sanriaguistas roads from Madrid. The canvas of Santiago Matamoros is spectacular. A sober and majestic architecture accompany a multitude of precious artworks. There is much activity parish, if you want to visit to look at before the schedules of masses.
