Taking advantage of the Festival of the Virgin of la Paloma we approach to the Basilica of Saint Francis the great. He had spent here on countless occasions, but for one reason or another, it had not entered ever... ERROR!! When finally I entered could not believe me what I was seeing. Outside is a rather sober Church which is notable mainly for the impressive size of its facade. You could not imagine is that inside this church hide a real treasure. From the entrance, interior, walls, ceilings... everything is covered by frescoes. It is a marvel, even more if we consider the work in wood doors or huge sculptures of the Apostles. It is to be enjoying for a few long minutes. If you have not gone yet, don't make the mistake of Miss this place. In Madrid I've seen a church with a pictorial decoration at the height of San Francisco el Grande and San Antonio de los Alemanes is (another 'must' something more humble, but still pretty impressive also). In Madrid he had seen

Cost by going to a church that gives liturgical service. It is outrageous that they charge 3e. Soy Madrid and cat's life, I entered many times outside of business hours of mass to that Church (in the past) and I find the surprise that now you charge to enter the Museum, is in the Church. I am a Catholic and it turns out that this is one of the "possible" in which I would like to get married in the Church and only I can teach me promised and family in mass schedule. I can not to pray with the exception of mass schedule unless you pay 3e. Out of respect to the people who are in mass, not occurs to me go spinning xa show everywhere, acoustics, etc. Outrageous that in other churches / parishes / cathedrals you no charge.

  • the place is nice to see and I indeed enjoyed this nicely decorated church. Worth to see and pay €3. I am giving an average rating because the guy who was selling the tickets was really disgusting. Didn't like his pushy character. Not only he asked me like 5 times if I speak a little spanish or italian but also hated the way he touched me and pushed me inside to join a spanish tour. I didn't join them as I don't need to listen somebody talking in a language I do not understand but it seemed that nobody cared I haven't joined the group and explored basilica by myself. The tour guide just wanted to check my ticket.
  • This church has one of the largest domes in the world, I think it's a must in Madrid. It has a lot of frescoes and also one of the most famous masterpiece of Goya. You can see this building in the morning for free or join a guided tour in the afternoon for 3 euros.
  • Wonderful and Gorgeous Church! They close in the middle of the day so it's better to be early there. You are going to get so impressed when you see the inside! Full of symbolism, pictures, art and stories. Don't forget to stand in the middle of the church, just right in the middle and look up and take a picture! If possible go to the top of the church to enjoy a nice view.
  • One of the nicest churches in Madrid! It also has a nice view of the city
  • Loved it! The paintings are made in a style that they overhang the walls and thus look like sculptures, very interesting.
