Where to stay in Madrid

The Spanish capital is known for its array of distinct neighborhoods each with its own appeal. An affordable and easy-to-navigate metro system, which makes it is easy to get around Madrid gives you more flexibility in choosing where to stay. Perhaps the most popular choice is Puerta del Sol, the heart of the city center and one of the main tourist attractions with its numerous shops, affordable hotels, and restaurants. Close by is Gran Via street, one of the city's main arteries, which is also home to a number of hotels. A short walk from here is Plaza España where the city's most iconic landmarks lie, including the Royal Palace and the Teatro Royal. For somthing outside the traditional tourist areas, consider staying in La Latina or Malasaña, two bohemian neighborhoods that offer a wide range of eclectic shops, quaint cafes, and lively bars.

  • Boasting the third largest dome in christendom, the cathedral just blew my mind. You can sit gaping at the interiors for hours. So much to see. Not a square inch left unpainted or sculpted. The statue...  more »

  • the place is nice to see and I indeed enjoyed this nicely decorated church. Worth to see and pay €3. I am giving an average rating because the guy who was selling the tickets was really disgusting. Didn't like his pushy character. Not only he asked me like 5 times if I speak a little spanish or italian but also hated the way he touched me and pushed me inside to join a spanish tour. I didn't join them as I don't need to listen somebody talking in a language I do not understand but it seemed that nobody cared I haven't joined the group and explored basilica by myself. The tour guide just wanted to check my ticket.
  • This church has one of the largest domes in the world, I think it's a must in Madrid. It has a lot of frescoes and also one of the most famous masterpiece of Goya. You can see this building in the morning for free or join a guided tour in the afternoon for 3 euros.
  • Wonderful and Gorgeous Church! They close in the middle of the day so it's better to be early there. You are going to get so impressed when you see the inside! Full of symbolism, pictures, art and stories. Don't forget to stand in the middle of the church, just right in the middle and look up and take a picture! If possible go to the top of the church to enjoy a nice view.
  • One of the nicest churches in Madrid! It also has a nice view of the city
  • Loved it! The paintings are made in a style that they overhang the walls and thus look like sculptures, very interesting.
