We had the opportunity this trip to visit both this palace and Versailles. Versailles was a part of the reason we went while the Spanish palace was sort of an afterthought being in Madrid. Let me say ...  more »

This is the other name by which is known as the Royal Palace of Madrid. Even today the residence of Spanish royalty, even if you don't live there. It was built between 1738 and 1764 by order of Charles III If this review did you like, you can read my other reviews of Madrid (and others) and I'm glad a click on: is it useful? Thanks:)

This palace is very impressive especially in the morning when its main façade is illuminated by the Sun. His whiteness and his sculptures are then highlighted. The environment is very nice and quiet which is not always the case in Madrid.

  • Probably the most beautiful square to walk in Madrid during early morning hours just before it gets too hot or evening hrs once temp cooler. Be prepared for big tourist groups
  • Beautiful square close to Royal Palace and Jardines de Sabatini. Great place to relax for a while and take pictures...
  • Great views and gardens plus a really nice children's park to play in and benches to sit and look. On a nice day it is a great place to walk around or relax.
  • Great view of the Teatro Real, and nice gardens for a short stroll. Tends to be full of tourist groups around mid-day.
  • One of the most famous squares in Madrid, where you will see the Royal Palace, a beautiful neoclassical building with lovely gardens, I advise to go to the Moorish Gardens, just behind it!

Where to stay in Madrid

The Spanish capital is known for its array of distinct neighborhoods each with its own appeal. An affordable and easy-to-navigate metro system, which makes it is easy to get around Madrid gives you more flexibility in choosing where to stay. Perhaps the most popular choice is Puerta del Sol, the heart of the city center and one of the main tourist attractions with its numerous shops, affordable hotels, and restaurants. Close by is Gran Via street, one of the city's main arteries, which is also home to a number of hotels. A short walk from here is Plaza España where the city's most iconic landmarks lie, including the Royal Palace and the Teatro Royal. For somthing outside the traditional tourist areas, consider staying in La Latina or Malasaña, two bohemian neighborhoods that offer a wide range of eclectic shops, quaint cafes, and lively bars.
